AE 6.5 comes with a filter: Simulation/CE Rain (I think that’s the name).

You could create a layer with this effect, and maybe increase the contrast, then use it as a track matte, adding a little more with a mask(s) wipe on the layer that’s fading out…

The other way to do it would be to nest the shatter animation in a comp, say “ShatterComp”, then reverse “ShatterComp” in second Comp using Time Remapping (right click on first and last frames, choose Keyframe Assistant/time-reverse keyframes.
