Hi all, I’m running AE6.5 and I’ve just done the tutorials on the shatter plug-in avail on the cow. however what I would like to do is to have a picture come together by reversing the shatter effect, i.e. from full explosion back to picture. i think it would work to do a normal shatter fx and render it out and then time-remap it. but is there away to actually reverse the fx in the shatter setup?

    thanks for any advice

I think the only way to do it is to reverse playback of the layer–Ctrl/Cmnd + Alt/Option + R. Worked good for me.

The other way to do it would be to nest the shatter animation in a comp, say “ShatterComp”, then reverse “ShatterComp” in second Comp using Time Remapping (right click on first and last frames, choose Keyframe Assistant/time-reverse keyframes.

I did what Jim recommended and it works nicely, except for some resident pieces in the corners. I mask these out to the point where the mask was cutting down the size of the photo. At the point of mask interference, I quickly expanded the mask out of the way and had a clean reverse shatter.
