Yes, I’m still on 10.0.4 and all clips get pasted above at the point of the playhead. All I seem to do at this point is to paste lower 3rds and it works without fail.

Off topic, but all I edit these days is H.264 files I export from ScreenFlow and have no problems. I’ve even A-B’d it with PR 422 and didn’t find any real difference. But, I also use very few effects and color correction, it’s mostly cuts and lower 3rds. The biggest factor for me to avoid beachballs (again OT), is that after I make adjustments to the audio in the Project, I go to the Light Switch and switch off the thumbnails for both audio and video (the far right selection) and editing is very quick on my 2011 MBP i7.

That was really the main question. I can keep doing what I’m doing, it works fine. With arrow keys in the Event Viewer, it’s basically scrubbing anyway.

I don’t think this would speed up my workflow for reasons I won’t go into at the moment, but this is a great tip. I’ve not yet used the “reveal in event browser (shift F)” command. I’ll give it a try later.

It’s actually not bad using the Event Browser and Viewer to set I O points and then make a Favorite, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

I guess I didn’t explain that very well, that’s what I do now after I’ve opened the file, completed my audio syncing in the timeline, and then have left the timeline.

Since this “timeline” comes from the Event Browser and not from a Project, is there a way to set I and O points while I’m in the timeline and then make a favorite out of it? I’ve tried the Range Tool to set I O points and “Favorite” it, but it doesn’t work.

I’m certainly not the first to point this out, but not having a scrubber in the Event Viewer is a bit of a pain. I get it done with arrow keys, but it be nice if there was a way to “Favorite” an Event clip while in the timeline view.

I thought I might be missing something, but maybe not.

(I’ll also start a new thread in the Techniques forum, but I thought I’d post here first since Bill brought it up.)

I’m now beginning to do more prep work in the Event with a right-click to “Open in Timeline”. Does anyone have or seen a list (or tutorial) of recommended actions to do in the Event Browser before beginning the edit? At this point, I’m only syncing up audio with video. I’ll bet there’s a bunch of tweaks that might make more sense to do in the Event vs. the Project.

I do that with longer AVCHD files in ClipWrap before I bring footage to FCPX. There’s an option in the ClipWrap FILE menu to “Open multiple as Spanned…”

I always seem to forget about the double-clicking on the audio trick, but I also didn’t realize it would work in the manner you described. I tested it last night and it works great! This will save me a ton of time.

On a related note, when I do the above, I’m not able to only select the audio portion. When I click on the audio track, both the video and audio get highlighted. The reason I care is because when I start a new class edit, I need to move the audio forward about 6 frames to sync it up with the video. I can’t seem to do this after double-clicking the audio. Am I missing something or is this the way it’s designed?

The workaround is that I can then right-click on the clip and choose “Open in Timeline” and from there I can move the audio track. Typically, I do that while the original clip is in the Event browser, but I’m just trying to see if I can combine a few actions and save some steps and time.

I’ve had problems specifically with Perian and ScreenFlow, but never with FCPX. I keep Perian off now and just turn it on when I really need it and then re-boot. Before doing that, I was getting a lot of the “blue screen of death” that would happen randomly.

I just somewhat answered my own question. I finished an edit and then tested a bunch of the default Apple transitions and also tried many of Simon’s, Alex4D, and even some of the older BG ones. I couldn’t find a single one that that would allow me to use only video. Aside from my workaround, it seems like there would a better quicker way to do this or a “video-only” transition out there somewhere. (If only the Inspector offered a “None” choice.)

I don’t have Motion and likely won’t have time to mess with it until at least summer, but does anyone know if it’s possible to save out transitions without audio parameters? I know Alex came out with a “audio-only” transition over a year ago, so I would assume so.
