Interesting. My screen capture exports are essentially the same except the Data Rate I use is 7.6 Mbits/s (also including the audio). I experimented with much higher and lower data rates, but what I came up with works fine in FCP X and a higher rate didn’t gain me anything. Thanks, I was just curious.

If you don’t mind, could you tell the H.264 specs when you open a 5D H.264 file in QT 7? I’m just curious as to what comes straight out of the camera in terms of the Data Rate, Audio format, and picture size. I want to see how close my H.264 exports out of ScreenFlow are to a 5D. I initially exported ProRes, but it was definitely overkill for my purposes.

Yep, couldn’t agree more. I spent a brief time in Digital Performer before Tracktion and then on to Logic. If Apple can make Logic X a bit more like Tracktion and FCP X, it could be pretty cool, especially if they add in the round tripping with FCP.

It’s cool to see I wasn’t the only one here that used it and had an appreciation for it’s workflow. It felt to me like the first DAW that wasn’t trying to emulate the analog and hardware world.

Very Cool! I thought I was alone as a former Tracktion user. I stayed on v.2 as v.3 was so buggy with no known support/fixes from the company coming.

Early on I looked closely at Logic and Pro Tools and didn’t like the interface and general usability and went with Tracktion 1. I like to think that some of the interface changes that came with Logic 8 were take from Tracktion. In fact, the Inspector in FCP X is very similar in concept to what Tracktion was doing many years ago with the 1 window interface.

If you do end up trying it out, I’d be curious as to what your thoughts are.

I don’t have the time or need at the moment to make any changes in web video delivery, but I appreciate the link and will bookmark it for down the road. I think I can ride out the next year or two with what I have.

I’d be happy to share more info if you’d like via email, but what I’m doing is using the x264 codec via Compressor on the Pro Res export from FCP X and creating two files for the Flash Player, one is an .MP4 and the other an .M4v file. The Flash player uses the .MP4 and then the HTML5 fallback uses the .M4V. I’ve not had a single problem in the last year or two with this system and any browser or mobile device. Let me know if you’d like more specifics.

Interesting. I wish there was a video demo for this. I’m still using a proprietary video/audio player I bought from ESA years ago for the Members Area of one of my websites. I add code to this Flash player so that it has fallback to HTML5 for iPad and iPhone users. At the moment, HTML5 still does not seem overly robust.

It will be interesting to see where it all goes, but at this time I still need to be able to serve up both Flash and HTML5, and it appears about 80% of my users are still using web browsers with Flash.

Over the last few years I’ve done everything in my power to avoid Adobe, Microsoft, and Google (I’m stuck with Apple).

Speaking of jokes. 6 months ago I began using Adobe Connect to teach online classes. It works. Mostly. The sales lady misled me about exactly when Adobe would upgrade the software to HD quality, she said “very soon”. Adobe did a major upgrade a few weeks ago which seemed to break more things than fix at my end, and we’re still at 640×480 and 20fps. Not quite HD yet and I guess “very soon” to Adobe is sometime around a year (which is what the support fellow told me).

Adobe Connect support is ridiculous. I opened a ticket for problems after the upgrade and asked that my complaints be passed up the food chain. My new friend in India said someone would get right back to me. It’s been a few weeks now. Not worth another phone call, but annoying. If Adobe Connect is any indication of current Adobe quality and support, good luck with Creative Cloud.

Mostly I’m responding because I saw my name in the subject line and it got my attention. But I tell you, if I didn’t have to make my living using software and services by the 4 above mentioned corporations, I wouldn’t. (Sure gotta love these small software and plugin companies though that respond personally and get upgrades and fixes out within days after you email them. Ah, good times.)
