In addition to the columns the picon view at the top of the bin window provides more info. When you select an item in the bin you will see a tiny triangle in the text to the right of the picon. Click this triangle and a menu drops down showing all the places the clip is used. Click one of the items in the list and the timeline window will navigate to that instance – opening the relevant timeline if it’s not already open.
Handy, yes?

There is a preference setting that will turn off the “play after preview render” feature. Not at the system right now so cannot tell you exactly where to find it.
The workbar start and end points can be set with the keyboard. Alt+[ for the start and Alt+] for the end point. Or, if you zoom in the timeline to some degree then double click the workbar area, it’s duration will be set for visible portion of the timeline.

Kevin,
Right click the entry and select edit>log entry to “load” that event in the upper section of the logger. When you have made your changes press the re-log button.
This is only an option if the clip has not yet been captured.

As a long time COW leader myself I suggest you go right ahead and post on as many forums as you want – if they seem logical places to get your questions answered. There’s a difference between posting on two or three forums and posting on every forum. It’s the later case that constitutes a violation of etiquette and is the forum equivalent of spamming.
In days of old, when newsgroups were accessed over dial-up connections, the bandwidth wasted by cross-posting was inexcusable. Today, with the prevalence of broadband connections – not so much.

I’m not familiar with ReelDVD but many authoring programs allow you to include a data folder to be included on the DVD. If Reel has this function simply point it to the image folder and (re)create a disc image.
If Reel does not have this feature my recomendation would be to purchase Sonic’s RecordNow burner software. It’s not too smart for it’s own good like Roxio is (IMO). RecordNow is inexpensive, easy to use and has been rock solid for me.

The one time I had this behavior it was due to a corrupt clip. Never did figure out in what way the clip was corrupt. I could scan thru it OK, but about midway through playback things would lock up. Re-capturing the bad boy fixed the problem.

The other thing you can do is use the Effects Control Window. Keyframes show up there same as for video effects. Not as fast as working directly in the timeline but you can enter exact values or use the slider controls for quick adjustments.

The bitrate of the HDV format you mention is the same as regular DV. If it’s not playing smoothly then possibly your project is setup to some other format.
What are the specs of the system you are using including drive types?
