Just a thought, Terry. How many devices do you have connected in your firewire chain? Can you pull some of them off, just to see if it gives you more throughput?

I am using 9.0c 64 bit in Win 7 and have had no issues with firewire capture.

Thanks, Douglas. I’m a little confused.

First of all, if Vegas natively supports the file format, what is the driver for? I will be bringing the files home from the job on a hard disk or SD card and won’t have any Sony hardware on hand when I do the editing.

Assuming that “natively supports file format,” really means “you need additional software to make it work,” none of the choices on the Sony website make sense to me.

I guess I’m confused as to the software descriptions, because the only description that says “driver” also says “optical,” making me wonder if it’s for the optical disk based XDCAMs.

The problem, which occurs randomly, is when I have an AVI file on the timeline. There is a Boris Effect applied to it. In the Boris effect, there is a PNG still image, a JPG still image and a QT movie. The proper codec’s for the QT movie, which was created in FCP’s Livetype, are installed on the edit system.

Lots of suspects there, right?

I read here on the Cow a few days ago that the black frames are a known issue with QT 7.6.2 and Vegas 9.0c. I’m using them in combination with an HP quad core Intel processor with 12 GB RAM and Win 7 Home Premium.

I.m not familiar with your camera or it’s Codec’s, but if you’re using Vegas 9.0c with Quicktime 7.6.2, getting black output is a known issue. Upgrade to Vegas 9.0d.

Thanks for your help Matt. When rendering my output, I set the WMV render to 29.97, instead of its default of 30 fps. The timing on the effects has all fallen into place perfectly.

I really appreciate your help and all the time you put into helping this lunkhead (me) figure out what was going on.

No problem launching it.

When Internet Explorer loads, it saw some ActiveSCRIPT calls and asked me if i wanted to allow them. Barely paying attention, I assumed IE was telling me it couldn’t connect to the web, then i assumed the documentation is on line.

By taking an additional 3 seconds to READ the message on screen, I allowed activescript to run and have my manual now.

The problem I was having with BFX turned out to be Quicktime problems all the way.

I uninstalled the current version of QT, which is 7.6.6, and installed QT 7.6.2 and everything is now working perfectly.

Stills are loading into BFX 9.3, and passing through to Vegas 9.

And the best part, with my new PC, I can preview BFX compositing without having to render the work first.

A real happy customer here. Just crossing my fingers for the 64 bit version……
