Found this in a thread on Adobe’s website. When you select the clip in your Premiere timeline, right click, send to Soundtrack, Render and Replace, as soon as Soundtrack loads the clip, the waveform in Premiere is expanded tremendously. That’s without doing anything to the audio clip in Soundtrack, except loading it.

Strange feature, huh? I’ll have to ask about it on the Adobe forum.

Just looking to get the laptop so I can take work home in the evenings or weekend. Not sure if I should go for a 17″ screen or use a smaller laptop with an external monitor.

Can you even read the screen when you run after effects?

I don’t think I have a lo/med/hi switch on my Hn4. I couldn’t find it in the manual either. Would it be called something else?

Brent, on a completely different subject, I see in your signature that you have an HP i7 Quad laptop with CS5. I’m looking to buy a new laptop and was just looking at that model this morning. Are you happy with it?

That’s simple enough to test, but I thought that if the Hn4 said the level was peaking just under 0dB, that I had it right. But I will definitely give it a try.

I have a manfrotto 516 video head. It’s pricey, but do you want to put your expensive camera & rigging on the cheapest tripod you can get? It’s got plenty of capacity for rails, mattebox, viewfinder, etc. I used to put a 12 pound 3 chip betacamSp camera on it, so it’s got plenty of capacity for the DSLR.

It’s true that it’s not as smooth as a Vinten or one of the other “professional” heads, but with a little planning you can still get a smooth tilting or panning shot.

If you look to buy a used one of eBay, be aware that the heads do loose their fluidity over time, and either make sure the seller knows what they’re talking about when they tell you it’s in mint shape, or that they’ll take it back if you’re not happy.

Didn’t try MacDrive. When I found out it was FAT32, I decided to give Windows another try. I tried to add a drive letter in Disk Manager and must have clicked too fast without reading the dialog box. I think I may have re-partitioned it, because Windows now wants to format it and the MAC says it’s unaccessible. Ended up going back to the client with my apologies and they are getting another hard drive from their cameraman’s backup.

My guess is that if it looks “Cinematic” at 1080, it will look just as “Cinematic” at 720. The cinematic look is due to lighting, lens choice, DOF and contrast, not the number of pixels.

Is MacDrive well behaved? Does it load any bloat or background utilities that I don’t need onto the PC (sort of the way Quicktime does?)

Call me paranoid, I get uncomfortable loading drivers onto an otherwise stable computer system.

Are you saying the first clip fades to black, then the next clip Fades up from black?

Are you saying the first clip fades to black, then the next clip “pops on” at full intensity?

Try to describe it more precisely, I’m not sure what you’re seeing.
