Nah. Steve Jobs would turn over in his grave if Cook allowed the Ipad to become a mini-laptop like the surface. His whole vision was for the Ipad to be a completely new product and a completely different market. Ipad has redefined so much of how people work and consume media. I hope Apple sticks with their original vision. The day the Ipad has a kickstand, sell your Apple stock immediately.

  • Windows was preliminarily unanimously down voted in the office today

Just wondering, is anyone there excited about the MS Surface tablet and how that could change things?

  • I’ve owned several Windows Machines. You haven’t missed much. (Except a few viruses maybe).

  • I don’t think this forum would exist if anyone was super excited about jumping to Windows. The fact is, I think most of us really like Mac OS and we all loved FCP. Hence, all the frustration in having to decide future workflows. Mac Pro isn’t end of line, but Apple is definitely moving towards smaller, lighter, faster. To me that means the next Mac Pro (yes, there will be one in 2013) will look very different than the bulky tower of today. Also, what about the next imac? Would Ivy Bridge quad processor, SSD and thunderbolt be fast enough for you?

  • It was in an email from Tim Cook himself, that MacPro is coming “later next year”. Definitely not EOL. Not yet anyway…

  • Have you had any drive failures with SSD?

  • The RAM upgrade is only 200 from Apple. Not much difference

  • Couldn’t agree more. The new MBP can start with 16GB of RAM. Add that and some Thunderbolt drives. What more do you need to get you through the next 3 years??

  • Apple was the upstart that struggled against the mighty Microsoft for many years. In general, it made a more stable OS run on UNIX while Microsoft was plagued with virus and registry issues. Apple has had some bombs but under Steve Jobs, its made pretty good products. I don’t think anyone minds a corporation making billions as long as they don’t make crap. Personally, I see apple declining under Tim Cook. He just doesn’t have the vision and I predict their products will start to look more and more “normal” (aka boring) as time goes on. But until one of us runs a billion dollar company, I guess we can’t judge…

  • Really guys? The laptop is a crappy product because it can’t be easily upgraded? Is popping open your laptop really a part of your daily workflow?? You don’t pop open a TV or Toaste. What’s the difference. The PC is becoming an appliance that most people use for about 3 years and then upgrade by buying a new one. I’m not saying its a good or bad product, but I’m ok buying a warranty and getting a new computer if one breaks. Soon, laptops will be as thin as paper, how are you going to upgrade then??
