Yes, I was rather long winded in that post. Bluray 16Mbit & Internet AVC were the Sony AVC codecs. I just threw in the Cineform 4.4.4.4 to compare visually lossless file to that of a finnishing output.

I was saddend that 4 gigabytes per second on HD speeds ment noting.

Perhaps my GTS 250 card is too slow to improve my AMD computer…But no increase at all. SAD INDEED. My next computer will get a GTX 460. We will see then.

I wrote this report for people looking to increase speeds, Hard Drive performance and CPU clocks. I find it shocking that AMD and Intell rank the same for Vegas. I dropped AMD in the K6 days. Now looking at it again…

November 4, 2010 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Vegas 10 – Building a Computer to Spec

I just wrote an article comparing everything that I had.

    Spec Computer:

1: FASTEST quad core you can afford. Gigaherts is where it’s at with Vegas.
Vegas Seems to use 4 cores to the max. More cores just helps multitasking while rendering. I have the 980x with 12gigs. I render two files at a time just to use most of my computer resources!
2: 8 to 12 gigs or ram. Vegas likes 6 gigs these days in 64bit land.
3: 2 HD’s One for your System/boot and one for your work projects.
    4. Get a dock station or use portable 2.5″ HD to save your clients work on when finnished.
5: Video cards for multiple monitors 3 monitors is GREAT! 1920×1080.
6: CUDA – SMUDA, I’ve tested the AVC encoding boost, can’t find it on my GTS 250 with 1gig ram. I get 2-5% GPU usage, no effect on encoding times… must be the transfer lag to the cuda processors.
SONY VEGAS must actually change their source code on their rendering engine no updates in ages!

I’m not a PPro user, so I just tried it for kicks, the CUDA hack to allow my GTS 250 worked fine, the hack allowed me to scrub and watch the playback almost as well as Vegas does with out nay special hardware or reworked code. Vegas beats Adobe most of the time… I just love their MediaCoder..I use that in the back ground while working in Vegas…
7: CASE – Who cares, one that holds your componants – I like the Antec specials.
8: Blu-ray, they all blow, constant firm wware updates required everytime you use them…yet they all work, just anoying…

    Hope I helped…

October 22, 2010 at 5:00 pm in reply to: Why does Sony Vegas compatability suck so bad?

    RJ,

Yea, I discovered K-lite codec destruction years ago… VLC codecs are internal and does not affect Vegas or any other system in the computer…

I just use: Free QT download, FFDshow, AC3 filter. This allows me to view and edit everything I have run into from my crazy clients..

    I’m still confused on QT-Pro…

Am I not rendering h.264 mov with in Vegas? I have the option to render mov’s

That would make sence since, Adobe media encoder renders faster and looks a hair beter…

  • We need a little more info:
    1.5 continuous hours? Multicam?

The fastest way to edit is to leave the whole clip on the line. Just drop images, other vids and effects above or below that line to attain the proper fades, layers, Fx, etc..

October 22, 2010 at 4:38 am in reply to: Sony Vegas Green Screen with uneven lighting

Lol: the days of having interns from college setting up a green screen and the using a green shirt on the host. Seems like you found the same scenario…

Cs5 has an auto-roto. Download the demo, you will get a perfect key this way, no worries…you will need a little fine tuning when the colors hit too close to confuse the roto tool, but we’re talking a few minutes…

  • Go to apple.com and download quick time pack. No need for pro or iTunes…but they will work too…

Apple doesn’t sell quick time to Vegas…that’s all

VLC: the open source player simply put the k-lite codec pack into it’s library. Mostly hacked codecs..free so who cares…

My question is why would you buy QuickTime pro? I’ve always just downloaded the free one with I-tunes….my crapy phone likes it too.
Does qtpro support more cores, higher quality???
I’ve noticed media coder makes mov’s faster way faster than Vegas does…
    Thanx

October 21, 2010 at 10:26 pm in reply to: Cineform / Vegas / Store used clips

    For Danny:

Cineform is a Wavelet codec – visually lossless interframe compression and stable.

AVCHD – long GOP format Block compression. Both mean extra processing times and GOP breaks fast under serious compositing even simple things like crossfades add artifacts.

Interesting: Never seen the save trimmed source media option before.
Can’t think of a reason why you would do that anyway. That seems to stop the ability to fine tune any futher adjustments. Does’t really save all that much space on the HD either. Just save the project, use it as a sequence etc…

    Cineform:

I’ve seen that in three cases:

You are using the 32 bit cineform on the 64 bit Vegas. Version 5.0 & above should not have that issue.

    The license is expired

You are rendering to a resolution higher than is licensed 1920×1080…

October 18, 2010 at 7:19 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 10 GPU ..What, where, when….No Way!

One big array will be fine… However, the built in raid chip on Mother Boards are not designed for speed. You can always give it a shot, I’d like to know how it goes.

Also: from my use as a power user on a computer and what not…

I really like four partitions on a raid.

    1:OS
2: Backup files & System restore
    3: Work Drive
4: Library – music, images, royalty free stuff…

This allows my work files and other programs sit on the Hard drive and if I mess up my boot sector or need to reinstall the OS it doesn’t interfear with my other files… A complete system restore new codecs and the like in under 20 minutes. A brand new speedy clean system.
