You might need to be more specific with your SD issue…

I always throw my highest rez files into DVDA and just let that program do the conversion for me. I just set it for max bit rate…

My DVD’s from my EX-1 always look great…

The choppies comes from two issues:

1: slow pans etc get choppy from image stablization.

2: fast movement choppies comes from slow shutter speed…

Many people like the film effect ie motion blur… I say yuck. Shoot at shutter of 1/96 or 1/120… Good compromise…

Many pros shoot at shutter as high as 1/250 or so to get zero blur! That make special effects motion tracking ect… Way better… Let the film transfer give you the film effect of motion blur…

There really is no specific, yet recommended…

The fastest is the Sony avc, use Internet 720p 16×9 hd…
From there you might need to change some settings, for some odd reason, Sony avc, has lousy options for simplicity for rendering…
You will need to check the box that says render at project settings or sometimes you just need to type in the frame rate at which you captured your footage..

Yea, a quad core must have 8 gigs of ram. Punch up your resource monitor/ You will see that your ram is maxed out and you are hitting the Swap File “Virtual Memory”!

I using 9e consitantly hit 6.5 to 7.5 gig utilization.

Your processor is okay for HD, just about 20% slower than an I7 92o during render times.

Up grade to Win7 x64 pro.
    throw in 6 more gigs…

    You’ll be flying smooth…
Wait for sandy bridge or Interlogos from AMD.

Personally, I’ve always maxed it out for the best looking vid. I have yet to get a call saying the DVD will not work. However, I can attest to the media issue… Three years ago when I found my self distributing a movie, I went cheap, discount DVD’s called ‘PLAYO’
    Bulk purchase from Office Depot…

WOW! Who would have thought, 100% failure rate!

Name brand from then on, no issues…Verbatum, Memorex, & Sony for me.

December 2, 2010 at 9:14 pm in reply to: rendering at 29.97fps and 30fps

Well, I just happened to have a friend over with a flip mino-Hd.

That footage is a true 30p with a shutter of 1/30???
This makes quite a bit of motion blur and not overly compatable with 29.97 footage. But not bad…

    I tried multiple configurations…

Sony AVC codec: Internet HD 30p = 29.97 720p ‘Progressive’, do not blend fields under project settings… When render select use project settings…

That was about the best it looked for me, I just don’t like motion blur for my projects. I like Iris of 1/96 or 1/120…

December 2, 2010 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Importing HD Quicktime Footage

I ran into this problem 2 years ago… I love that crazy P2 footage, and love FCP even more for their proprietary, Job’s way or the highway mantality…

Needless to say, my work around was simple:
I used Adobe media Encoder to transcode the footage to something else that I liked…

    I used AVI and cineform…

Otherwise: fast & dirty = H264, Apple TV 720p is fast.

    good luck…
