If you do this kind of correction is recommended to do in 32bit project because of the limited dynamic range of the video footage you can get very ugly banding effect in 8bit and even 16. Better is to set the project in 32bit and use a levels effect. Left slider is the shadows(drag to the right if you need to brighten the image), middle is the mids, right is the highlights. Just play with them until you get your look.

April 22, 2014 at 12:13 am in reply to: After Effects error: unable to allocate space, cant find out a sollutionHehe, funny to think i was doing 10k renders from ae years ago in the age of 4gb ram workstations.
Easy done my friend:
Download gimp, the free open source software like photoshop.( photoshop is EXTREMLY slow with huge images thats why i use Gimp on big images)Open your big image in Gimp and then EXPORT as JPG with 75% quality AND 4:2:2 subsampling settings (you could try 80-85 quality but 75 is also ok, almost Facebook like 🙂
After this you will get an image under 100mb perfect for AE(my 21.000×10200 4:2:2 , 75% Q foto panorama jpg from gimp was 14MB big)
I tested this right now with a panorama image same size as yours on a laptop and set AE to 3GB ram usage and multiprocessing off, in a 10s HD comp with cc sphere effect applied, and some rotation animation NOT A PROBLEM, i could get even ram preview for all 10s rotation in quarter resolution preview.
AE peak usage in Mountain lion was 1.6GB for final 10s rotation render so YES is POSSIBLE.
Daca nu reusesti lasa-mi un mesaj 🙂

March 26, 2014 at 8:02 pm in reply to: After Effects CC – Renders Are slow or Fail while using MultiprocessingI encountered this problem many times on some big projects. My solution witch always works for me is:
1. turn off multiprocessing
2. add composition to renderq
2. set output to image sequence and check Skip existing frames
3. save the project and close AE
4. open command prompt and type this(if you use CC i think you change CS6 to CC, i am not sure, i use CS6):
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS6\Support Files\afterfx.exe -project c:\projects\project_1.aep
or you could go direct in Ae folder where afterfx.exe is located and use only
aerender -project c:\projects\project_1.aep
“c:\projects\project_1.aep” is the path to your saved project.
Enter this command line 4-6-8 times, depending on your ram usage, each time you enter the command line will open an ae renderengine instance who will skip the files already written and you will render a lot faster then even AE multiprocessing.
I always use this technique to render big projects and always works.

March 20, 2014 at 11:42 am in reply to: Space bar playback of audio/video in after effects, will be ever implemented ?I love them all, even if i am sometimes frustrated about some features that are not there, Ae is part of my daily life for long time now, some sort of companion :). I respect you guys for what have you done with Ae and Premier till now, are extremely stable and i have not got a crash in cs6(i prefer cs6 to cc for now) for ..i can remember really. I submitted a feature requests with some of the features i personally think would make working in Ae on bigger projects a lot more easier. Maybe would be implemented, maybe not, but Ae is and would be part of my life forever.

Then you should be ok with mocha 2D planar tracking.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBkLV4Wkw8Q some basic Pan Tilt Zoom tracking with mocha.

I think shoting the scene with blank monitor, then roto the screen in Mocha and track the roto shape, because the scale(and position if is not static camera) of roto shape changes and you need same scale change on your footage what comes there, go back to ae an use the track data from mocha and the roto as mask for the layer you need in place. Then some grading, noise and should be ok if are no other camera moves. Depending on the shot you could need some rotoscoping to do on the character to.

March 19, 2014 at 8:05 pm in reply to: Space bar playback of audio/video in after effects, will be ever implemented ?”Ae uses CUDA for one thing and one thing only, the ray-tracing renderer.”
I am very happy when Ae renders with both CUDA gpu cards i have, but exactly thats the problem. Premier has mercury playback engine witch from my understanding is sort of a module/plugin, but without cuda premier has very big problems even with HD real-time playback(thats why i had to change my few months old FirePro for some CUDA cards), when an iPhone 5 can edit/grade HD H264 realtime without any CUDA(ridiculous). I know are some economical reasons behind not developing hardware playback in AE, is obvious, but still, its about time for this feature. I will submit some features requests but i doubt will be ever implemented. I seems to me that the road Adobe has taken with Ae and Premier is very very straight forward. That means minimum improvements for as long as possible, 1-3 features pro year. Take a look at NUKE how The Foundry really develops that product, and is a much smaller company. As for Adobe forums, i think they are more present here then there :).

March 19, 2014 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Space bar playback of audio/video in after effects, will be ever implemented ?I use a small apple keyboard without 0 numpad because i can not stand any cables around me anymore, and is not that, but always software ram-preview. Was just saying is about time that Ae should integrate hardware accelerated real time playback, the possibility is there. I am no coder myself and i know is a lot of work but more people should request this. I have 2 GPU cards and indeed AE uses both when using ray tracing and rendering is very fast but playback still the old software B-N-Ram preview.

The most simple solution for this is, if is static BG, create one such graphic in Illustrator or Ae and animate the vertical position of each with a mask what revels each of the color bands artwork creating the illusion is 3D. Are many more possibilities for this effect but if is static is no point to do in real 3D
