I think Jeff is right on target. Your composition’s resolution is much smaller than the JPEG so you’re only seeing a central (all white) portion of the image. You can use one of the Layer > Transform > Fit To Comp options as a starting point for getting your image the right size (note that the “Fit To Comp” option may scale your image different amounts on the X and Y axis, I generally stick to one of the other two options there).

Can you provide a screen shot or two of the problem? Ideally it’d be good to see the timeline, your comp viewer and the project panel with one of the problematic JPEGs selected.

Well, turns out I lied 🙂 I’ve run into problems like this with other similar expressions. In this case it looks like there is no problem with this expression and motion blur.

You can use the Interpret Footage dialog for the 16/235 clips to assign the Rec. 709 HDTV 16-235 color profile. That should fix black/white levels.
The Utility > Color Profile Converter effect is another option but would need to be applied to each layer of footage that needs to be effected while the Interpret Footage dialog will affect all instances of that footage in the project.

Word of warning:
If you’re applying this to a layer that has motion blur enabled when the layer rotates beyond the 0-360 degree range it will snap back around 360 degrees across one frame and you’ll get a big blurry spin on that frame.

Sketch & Toon in Cinema 4D has a very specific set of rendering parameters and capabilities that are not mirrored exactly by any other software I’m aware of. Element 3D renders using OpenGL and is much more limited in scope.
So the short answer is: no.
The longer answer is that if you work at it in After Effects you can use effects to create your own Sketch & Toon look to be applied after Element 3D. It won’t be the same and it will still be much more limited than C4D’s Sketch & Toon but it may work for you in this case.

I would apply this expression to the tracked Null’s position:
[value[0], thisComp.height/2]Which will limit the tracked Null to moving only on the x-axis and centered vertically in the composition.
Then you can parent another Null to the tracked Null to control y-axis motion. If you’d like to make sure you don’t accidentally move this one on the x-axis you could apply this expression to its position:

I don’t see any reason why that expression wouldn’t work in 3D. Are you having some problem with it?

Shot in the dark: try disabling hardware acceleration for the viewer in preferences. I believe this is in the Display section.

Warning: incoming rant.
Honestly I’m amazed how many people I hear about using laptops for AE. I suppose it makes sense to be somewhat mobile I want my renders and interaction as fast as possible.
Laptops are always getting faster but given the same generation of tech they will never ever ever ever catch up to a workstation. It’s just not possible.
We had a contractor come in for a job and he insisted on working on his MBP for the first couple of days. I think it had been a few years since he’d used a workstation. He was getting worried that he wouldn’t be able to finish the job in the allotted time, so I forced him onto one of our workstations and he was amazed at the rendering speed up (5-10x).
As a matter of fact, when I am mobile I use my laptop to login remotely to my workstation to work!
And thus ends my rant 🙂
