[Colin Braley] “Ctrl + left arrow to go one frame forward, and Ctrl + right arrow to go one frame back”

You’ll probably figure this out pretty fast, but those are reversed =)

You’ll have to ask someone else if you’re looking for a Windows solution. For Mac OS X I recommend Snapz Pro:

I just realized I did this without a depth layer… With the depth layer it didn’t seem to need repeating edges at all.

[jonkydong] “has anyone found a workaround for repeating edge pixels on the lens blur, when using a depth layer?”

Try putting a Fast Blur above the Lens Blur. Leave the Fast Blur at 0.0 Blurriness but enable the Repeat Edge Pixels and that should do it! Or at least it did in my limited testing =)

April 2, 2007 at 4:25 am in reply to: widescreen question

[paolom] “After I finished my comp I’ve tried to export it, now my settings are 720X480 on a 3:2 ratio, but when I render it is not widescreen….I’ve tried to make it custom by checking the widescreen button but still it comes out as if it was wide and got aspected to reg.”

If you’re working to make 16×9 NTSC footage you should be compositing in a 720×480 composition with a 1.2 pixel aspect ratio. This is accessible in the composition settings, cmd-k (Mac) ctrl-k (Win).

If you’re viewing the finished render at a square pixel aspect ratio then it will appear to be squashed horizontally. As for the ‘widescreen button’… I don’t know what that is =)

See… I knew I wasn’t accomplishing it in a very efficient way (; I should’ve known I was out of my league here… I’m going to back away slowly =)

The Cycore Effects (CC) should be on your AE7 Pro install disc. They aren’t installed automatically when you install, but there should be an option to install them.

Otherwise, if you need the effects immediately and don’t have an AE7 Pro install disc you might have to go here to download/purchase Cycore FX HD, which is a little pricey:

You would probably want to play with various color correction effects on your footage using some technicolor footage as reference. I like adjusting Levels on a channel by channel basis (use opt-1, opt-2, opt-3 to change the channel you’re viewing) but Hue/Saturation might work if you’re just aiming to oversaturate your colors.

    [Filip Vandueren] “Math.atan2”

I’m pretty sure that Math.atan2(y, x) is the exact same thing as Math.atan(y / x); It just does the division for you. I tried using atan2 in this expression and ended up with the same results.

March 31, 2007 at 5:51 am in reply to: Camera move query?

[jbooth] “Is this best achieved by moving the camera through space, or moving the elements through space toward and past the camera? Or is it just personal preference?”

From your description of the shot I would say you should be primarily concerned with animating the camera. Some people prefer to animate the position and point of interest of the camera. The point of interest is handy because it gives you a defined point in space that the camera is looking at, the camera automatically pans and tilts to center this point in it’s field of view.

The Point of Interest method isn’t always ideal because it can create a headache for you if you’re working with lots of keyframes.

AE defaults to bezier spatial interpolation of these keyframes and you can end up getting a ‘boomerang’ effect:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/page_wrapper.cgi?forumid=1&page=https://www.creativecow.net/articles/rabinowitz_aharon/boomerang_1/index.html

You can disable the Point of Interest by right clicking on the camera and going to Transform > Auto-Orient and changing it to ‘Off.’ In this setting you have to control all of the pans, tilts and dutch angles yourself… but some people are of the opinion that control is a good thing =)

That’s all I have to say on the subject for now… probably more than you were expecting =O
