  • Where are you trying to paste the path from? If it’s inside of AE you need to create a Mask Shape keyframe and copy that in order to paste it as position data.

Check your render settings to make sure you’re rendering to millions of colors, I never render to WMV so I can’t give you any specific information for that.

I can tell you, though, that I’ve heard that YouTube will let you get away with much better quality if you upload your file in the flash video .flv format (which is what they convert everything to anyway).

If you’re going to use this as a leader for videos you can pre-render it losslessly (which will give you a very large file) and then for each video you’re going to upload to YouTube: import it into AE, stick it on the beginning of your video and export the whole thing out to .flv (This is under File > Export, not accessible in the render queue).

If anyone has more experience with uploading flash video to YouTube I’d encourage them to join in on the conversation, I don’t do much online distribution so this is all through the grape vine =)

[BayDog] “Does this explain it better? AE does not do this.
The option key turns the pen into the convert tool and I loose the curve behind it.”

It’s not just the convert tool, you can use it to drag the bezier handles independently of one another. Which I think is what you’re asking to do?

Sure there is. You need to create a single action that resizes the picture and then saves it. Use save for web if this is giving you better results, but if you do then be sure that you save the file to the folder that you want all of the files output to (save for web doesn’t work as nicely with Batch processing). The action will record the save options that you use. Make sure that you’ve only recorded the image resizing and the save.

Now, make sure that you have all of the pictures you want to apply this action to in the same folder.

Then go to File > Automate > Batch. You’ll get a scary looking dialog (if you’ve never seen it before), but the important things to do are set the Action to be your newly recorded one, choose the source folder where all of the images you want to change reside (I also like to supress the file open option and color profile dialogs). If you used save for web then choosing a destination folder won’t do anything and the files will be saved to the location you chose when you recorded the action, otherwise if you used save as choose a destination folder and tell it to override save as commands and change the naming rules until you have what you want.

Then run the batch! That’s it.

Right click the layer and go to Transform > Auto-Orient and turn on Towards Camera.

That is strange… But, I found a way to make it work. Move the track matte into the pre-comp that you want matted and matte the layer there. The track matte will retain its 2D quality even in the final comp.

I’d love to take a look at an .aep if you can provide one. I thought I understood what you were talking about until I saw the .mov, now my interest is piqued =)

  • Select the position property of the missile, create at least 2 different keyframes so you can see the motion path and use the pen tool (G) to edit it. You can edit it just like any other vector, add points, bezier curves, change handles, etc.

  • Particular creates each particle with its own 3D coordinates. If you want them to appear as though they aren’t in 3D space you can make the layer that Particular is applied to into a 3D layer, which is kind of illogical but has the effect of forcing the particle layer into a flat 3D plane just like other 3D layers in AE.

  • There are a few ways to get the red look. You could put a red solid at the top of your composition and change its blending mode to hue (or color if you like that look more), you could use a CC Toner effect and change the midtones to a red color, you could use a Shift Channels effect to turn off the Green and Blue color channels leaving you with only red (this would mean your whites would look like pure red, which I don’t think is the look in Terminator).

After that you could do a few things to make it look more ‘robotic.’ Off the top of my head you could try a stylize>posterize effect to limit the color pallete, a stylize>mosaic effect to give it a digital look, and then maybe an animation preset like Bad TV 2 (search TV in animation presets).

If you don’t like the way that preset looks you can tweak it to be more subtle, I like to use a slider control on a null object and some expressions to control the intensity of it.
