Ah fantastic – that did work a treat, thanks Dan.
It did run me into another problem however.
I am trying to animate the rotation of an object based on the time remap properties of the other layers, so as they speed up, the rotation also speeds up etc.
However, when using the speed value , it works when the value is increasing, but as the velocity value decreases the object returns to it’s original position.
So I guess I need an accumulating only value – perhaps using a valueAtTime property, but I’m afraid it’s beyond me!
Any suggestion much appreciated!

Thanks Dan, I’m actually looking to add together the values of ALL the layers below it.
So index+1,100 or something (assuming that would add all in that range), but it will probably require a qualifier for layers that have time remapping applied.

July 28, 2016 at 6:48 pm in reply to: Time Remapping Expression – based on different layerHmm, sorry I don’t think I’ve asked in the right way.
I’ve now put everything into the same composition in order to make it a bit easier, but it’s a bit of a circular problem.
Basically I have Layer 1 with Time Remapping applied – speeding up footage in curves.
So at 03776 frames in (comp), the Time Remapping value of Layer 1 is 04247I want an expression on Layer 2 Time Remapping to say: at each Comp frame, look for the same value in Layer 1 Time Remapping, and use the related Comp frame number at that time as the Time Remapping value for Layer 2.
So at 04247 in comp, the Time Remapping value of Layer 2 would be 03776.
Essentially where Layer 1 is speeding up, I want Layer 2 to slow down inversely.
This could potentially also be done with a slider?
Many thanks indeed – this would be saving my life!

Hi Jerry, thanks for the reply – I thought this may be the case, as the pesky nature of how time works means there’s essentially a logic problem as well, but that’s a separate issue to what you’re describing.
Hopefully someone can help out!
In the meantime I’ve experimented with a crude workaround – convert all frames to linear, add correlating TR keyframes on the audio track, and pull both out in the graph editor until velocity is 1/1 on the video track… it’s not pretty and it destroys all the elegance of the curves however
Good luck me, help me guardian angels!

Just explain this a little further
The top track is the Time Remapped video track, with the audio underneath:
Expanded graph:
I need to effectively stretch the audio out so if that time remapping was applied to it, it would playback at regular speed, if that makes sense…
I can imagine there may be a way to do it with pre-composing things and applying an expression, but my little brain can’t think how it may work…
Thanks!

Thanks Margus, yes I’m not sure why it even gets installed, I think BMD does it automatically?
Ok – so to update any interested parties; I ran some more tests and Joakim’s suggestion worked – I took the machine apart, blew out all the dust (particularly around the fans) and re-did everything.
It came in correctly; around 12FPS, which is about right – so try that if anyone is running into the same issue, or it seems particularly sluggish.
As a side-note, nothing ever maxes out in Davinci (CPU was still at 20%, Ram at 30% etc), I’m guessing that this means it’s a GPU holdup, but without any way to tell how much load it’s putting on the GPU it’s hard to tell.
Thanks again.

Hmm actually that is a good point – I have had an issue with the fans maxing out easily on this machine, ended up being due to dust wads in the fans…
I’ll do some more tests, it could be that the fans are trying to cool the GPU not the CPU, so limited by that, wouldn’t surprise me.
Thanks for the suggestion Joakim.

Hi Conrad,
Thanks for the feedback. I guess I was also interested in how you might achieve the colour/distortion effects.
Thanks

By any chance are you running Magic Bullet and a Blackmagic Card?
I had this issue recently with a project, had to open Looks separately, and change from CPU to GPU in preferences, which did the trick…

Hi Joshua, when I get some time I will give this a go and let you know. What has your testing with CS6 brought up? I’m interested if it works flawlessly anywhere on mac.
