the effect you are trying to achieve is very detailed so be prepared to spend a lot of time on the image.

I would also try learning about the mesh tool in Illustrator it’s really good for getting those shiny stockings effect!

Hi, I would get rid of the background, then convert image to greyscale and adjust the contrast, then either:
Image> adjustments> Posterize> 2 (you may have to go back and play with the contrast to get it like the Che image)

or Filter> Stamp and play around with the sliders, then clean up any random bits with the eraser tool make the solid black and white chunks.

Sorry this is a bit rushed, my 2 year old daughter wants me to play with her.

Hi, I don’t know about CS3 but in CS2 you go to Preferences-General-Keyboard Increment- and type in the nudge size you want… hope this helps!

I downloaded the demos of the Artistic Screening Tools and I love the Etchtone effect!

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of making up my own bitmap patterns, I’m going to experiment with different line thicknesses and see what happens.

Sorry I didn’t explain very well! Back in the (pre digital) day, we used a process called Schafline to convert mainly mono images into dot format which could be treated as a line drawing whithin a limited range of increasing or decreasing size for better visuals in a newspaper, see link for an example (scroll down to near bottom of web page).

I can adjust an image in photoshop to reproduce well in a newspaper, but I wondered if I could reproduce the schafline effect with a filter or something.
I guess that I’ll have a play around in PS and see if I can set up an action that can imitate roughly what I want to acheive.
