The only thing that works for me in this situation is to do the following:

Open AE and under file click “Import Premiere Pro Project”, find the project and open.
It will take a while to load.
Once loaded, this next step is very important, find the one file that says “Sequence 1” and double click that file.
Your project will load in order.
The do all the things you want to do in AE and render and output from there.

Some drawbacks that I have found is that many of the transitions do not work in AE, I’m not sure how or it you can fix that.

    Best of luck!

    Thanks David,

I had thought about using a DOF look but then didn’t end up doing it cause I didn’t want to mess with the brand logo which can be a no no.

    Thanks for your feedback!

That should be fairly easy using the “Scale” and “Position” settings in the footage (Image) you are using.

If I understand you correctly, the image you use should be considerably larger than your frame size so you can zoom in without losing clarity.

You should get a large ariel image of the location (town) and place it in the timeline, then using the scale and position settings center the first location to scale and keyframe those settings.

Then move down the timeline to the desired amount of time in which you want this to occur and scale and center the 2nd location.

As the move begins you would zoom (Scale) out of the first location, then as the timeline progresses you will be moving the image to the 2nd location, then zoom (scale) down to that location at the desired point.

Should be simple, keyframing the position and scale to the correct time points is all it will take.

“Do you have a better workflow than what I described?”

Yeah, instead of re-adding the Mpeg2 into the timeline and exporting a different format, I would just render any other format directly from the original project.

As I said, I always upload my Mpeg2’s, but if you do need some smaller or different file type for some reason it’s best if you can just export that directly from the original project like you did with the Mpeg2. Even though the Mpeg2 looks great it’s still a compressed file. So it’s always best to export any format from the original project unless there is a file type that Media Encoder can’t export directly from the original project, or you’re using some third party file converter.

    Does that make sense?

    Hey Rob,

    Glad it worked man.

I’m a little confused though when you say “I guess it is a 2 step edit/export process. 1. export to MPEG2 2. load MPEG2 clips into new timeline then export to desired flavor (H.264, FLV, QT, etc.)”

When I’m done editing the final video and export it as an Mpeg2, that’s the Mpeg2 I upload to youtube providing it’s under the 1 gig limit.

I’m not sure why you would add it to another timeline and re-export (unless the mpeg is too big like I explained) Please explain why you have to do that.

    Glad it works man!

    Hey Rob,

What I meant was HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality preset (Cameras read 30fps but it’s actually 29.97, same thing) So when you here 30 it’s always 29.97.

It will be a little strobey, that’s what gives it that more movie look, 24fps more so.

Unless your file is larger than 1 gig for youtube, just load the Mpeg2 file to youtube instead of the youtube preset, that’s what I do.

I would always output as Mpeg2 and then write to dvd using that file in any DVD writing program.

This is definitly my link, just copy and paste into browser:

Let me know if you have anymore questions, no need to pay;)

    Wow,

I shoot 1080 30p exclusivly on my Canon XH A1s and I’ve never had that problem.

2 things, are you sure you captured at 1080-30p? and second, does the preview look fine before you export it?

I export all my footage as Mpeg 2 with the preset export setting of “HDTV 1080 30p”. You can see what this setting should look like at the link below.

    Hey Dave,

I tried doing what was written in the link you provided but when I opened the upper layer Track Matte mode it only gave me options to select a different clip that was above the upper layer, not the layer below that it was duplicated from.

    Am I missing something here?

    Here’s what the link says:

҉ۢ Duplicate the keyed footage, and turn off the upper layer.

    • Fool with the lower layer’s Keylight settings until it looks like the subject looks fine, but is over a grayish, washed-out chroma key background. It’ll take some doing, but you will have gotten it to the point where Keylight’s spill suppressor is working. That’s good, because the Keylight spill suppressor works darned well.

    • Open the Modes panel, and use the upper layer as an Alpha Matte for the lower layer. For more info, look up Track Mattes in AE Help.

Poof! You’re done! You have a clean key, AND you have spill suppression.”

    Hey Dave thanks,

Do you mean you would duplicate the footage and on the top layer create a garbage mask where the sticks are then set the spill supresser to the stick color?

    Does that sound right?
