    Hi Todd,

Thanks. That was it. And unfortunately it opened up a little can of worms. It seems the 2.x Matrox drivers will work with FCP 7, CS5 and CS5.5…at least they do on my system. The 3.x drivers written for CS6 do not support FCP7. In fact the latest iteration of them only supports CS6 PPro and Media Encoder. Apparently nothing else including AE. No WYSIWYG, etc. There is some discussion of that in the Matrox forums. Their solution is multiple boots, one for FCP 7 and such using 2.x and another for CS6 using 3.x. Not very appealing to most people I would think. I want to use FCP 7 along with CS6 so unless Matrox gets off the dime and writes a proper driver, I will have to go with the IO Express.

So the bottom line is even with the latest Matrox drivers, I cannot use the hardware for monitoring AE CS6 output in real time. The Matrox doesn’t show up in the list of video devices for monitoring. I can go back to 2.x and get monitoring, but not in real time.

Just for an FYI…I received the replaced VL5 today. It works OK. No problems with the menu items.

    Update:

Ikan has just told me that the firmware issue has been fixed and they will exchange the monitor. Expected delivery of new monitors is late next week. I will send mine in for replacement and report back on what happens. Thanks!

I upgraded the Newscutter software to version 6.1.6 and the monitor issue is fixed. Possibly there is a bug in 6.1.5? Or maybe just reinstalling the SW took care of the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. The monitors are correctly identified by the driver, so while a fix like that would be an excellent way to end the work week, it ain’t the problem. As for using the extend feature to get the Avid workspace over to the right monitor, looks like that is what I will have to do until I figure this out. Extending the desktop is a good workaround, thanks. Maybe the card itself is problematic. I am going to ask Tech Support to send me another for a test, and I’ll post what results I get. As always I am sincerely appreciative of any help and suggestions. The greatest people in our business are here on the COW, and I’m proud to rub elbows with them.
