September 11, 2019 at 10:41 am in reply to: Rendering 4K ProRes 4444 with alpha?

    Thanks for your reply.

It’s for a projection mapping where there will be video projected on a foreground, midground and background.
Foreground and midground have some odd shapes, so I need to render them out with the shape that was provided in illustrator that I have used as a mask for my canvas to project on(to not light up the layer behind).
If I don’t use alpha, the whole film will projected down on the various layers.
I did a similar projection last year, but this had a foreground and background. (arcs on the foreground, so the foreground was rendered with alpha, in order to not light up the wall in the back)

for each, foreground, midground, background, they all have a lot of artworks.
I have them all in the same comp, since I’m using a lot of lights that create depths and hit all layers that are both in foreground, midground and background.

The next thing is to add these in pandoras box which control the projectors.

Last time i didn’t render in 4K, so it was a bit easier. Much more details this time.

    Hope it makes sense ☺
    Thanks a bunch.

Btw, I’n after effects I’m using this look:
    https://www.shutterstock.com/da/image-vector/winter-snow-urban-countryside-landscape-city-535531183?id=535531183&rid=3071597
(hope it’s ok I link to it, it’s just to show the “style”)
and when using a point lights in the window and tweaking the colors, I can turn it into night scenes and make it look cute.

How do I re-create the same look in Cinema ?

    1. The look I get in After effects, the “paper cut” look with shape layers and 3D and adding point lights behind windows etc, gives a stylized and cute and look. It would be awesome to do in Cinema if it can “mirror” the same look.
I tried a test where I had 2 shape layers and a point light that I exported to Cinema and got the same look.

However my large scene I working on, with several point lights and Illustrator files with layers (so I one Illustrator file with my landscape in different layers for easy tweak) – when exporting to Cinema, seems like the Illustrator shapes don’t get exported in layers as in After Effects?

    2. Good point with the train – and the scene would make sense to re-create in Cinema so it will interact with the light . I see what you mean.
(My thought was first to do it in AE, it moving around as a 3D layer within the other 3D shape layers so I would be able to use the other shapes to “hide” it.
but VERY heavy slow scene ????

    Thanks a bunch for direction.

    Thanks a lot Corrado.
Didn’t know it would bring in the whole scene with lights etc.

I’m making a “paper cut” world with flat colors on shape layers and have set up lights in After effects.
I want to add a train driving through the world, so it’s basically just a sequence of the whole AE project that is “3D”.
Would you render in cinema and import in AE, or what is the smartest way to get it back and mixed with the rest in AE again after it has been through Cinema?

Any direction would be much appreciated

    Cheers, Dan

  • Thank you so much Michael.

If I have a shape that is animated and I want it to be played to a certain sound node, how can I “trigger” it?
I can’t seem to find much on this.

I have 5 different tones that want different animations for that is spread around my scene – Sound Keys has 3 ranges – what is the best way to do it when I have 5? The animation is just a shape that lights up and lights down is playing the tones, but will look like as if it’s the music that is “playing” it…(often seen in video projections, where windows or similar are being lot to the a certain music..they often have much more shapes around the surfaces…not sure how this is achieved?
I somehow need to trigger the animation, which I have created in another comp.

Any direction would be much appreciated

    Best,
    Dani

Thanks a lot for the direction both!
    Just what I needed.

October 17, 2018 at 12:05 pm in reply to: Multiple transitions on multiple backgrounds?

    Hi Kalleheikki

I’m doing lots of effects and animation in the same comp, sÃ¥ transitions are inbetween the various stuff.
So I thought it was easier perhaps to have it all in the same comp, since some of the animations are on top of something, that a transition change then reveal some new stuff etcetc. So it’s very timed.
But I understand that a linear way would be much easier – maybe that is what I’m experiencing now – that it can be tough with many layers and transitions ☺

I haven’t been using premiere or any other editing software.

Just thought if there was a better workflow in AE, then I could benefit from that.

Thanks a lot for your reply

    Thank you so much Max!
Will try right away when getting on the computer.

October 10, 2018 at 6:39 pm in reply to: Animation “distorted” when used in a larger comp

    Hi Max.

I have tried to turn it on and it still the same.
The way I can get around with it, is if I make the comp the same size and the main comp – but since I move them around, I like I can click and drag them when hitting their boundary box.

You are right, the anim is in 3D – I’m basically spinning the diamonds around it’s center while falling down..kind of a “drilling” effect.
But wondering why I can’t make a small comp with it and drag to a larger even if 3D is turned on?

    Thanks for the snow tip!

    🙂

I’m having a blast with After Effects, but this seems to trouble my mind.
Not sure what I might have done – I thought at some point changing perspective to front would fix it…but when using in larger comp and spreading it around as seen in the second pic, the diamond looks very skewed

    Hope it makes sense ☺
