John,
Thanks for the input and please pardon my ignorance but are there HDV cameras that are tapeless? I am looking to move away from a tape based camcorder system. If there are, do you have any recommendations? I’m in the mood for a for a good old fashioned side by side camera shoot out!
Thanks again.
Dan.

September 30, 2010 at 8:01 pm in reply to: Applying Plugins or transitions to Basic Text in VegasLet me just lay out what I think you mean and please correct me if I’m wrong. I tried to get some help from sony tech support but it didn’t go well. I think the tech was a little unfamiliar with the basic text functions and I was maybe not as clear on what I was trying to do.
-All transitions must be on the same track, above the video.
-According to my discussion with the tech, I start with an empty text box, then put the first section of text in a second box next to it. When I drag the 2nd box over the first and create a transition, I can then drop and effect on there that will bring in the text over the video.
– If I want to move the text off screen, I create another empty text box on the other end and repeat the process. What I found when doing this was that some of the effects do not work on the text, but rather the whole image. What I mean is if it is a page roll for example, the text does not roll in, but the entire frame rolls in as if it were two images or pieces of video. I’m not sure if I am making myself clear. I did however find that some of the flip in or zoom in DVE’s seemed to work. Maybe it is a case of trial and error and only a certain number of transitions will work with text.
I plan on purchasing the set of Pixelan plug ins for Vegas in the hope that many of these will accomplish this. I do mostly weddings and special event video now so text manipulation is important. Any advice on other options that have proved to be effective would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
Dan.

September 30, 2010 at 1:17 am in reply to: Variable Bit Rate for Vegas to DVDA (Media too large)Steve and Mike,
Thanks for your responses. I am in the process of rendering it now at the values Mike suggested and I will start experimenting with the bit rate calculator.
When I contacted Vegas tech support about this, they suggested I use a dual layer DVD. I understand that the capacity is much greater, but what about the compatibility with the variety of DVD players on the market? Is this an issue or are they relatively safe to use?
Thanks again for your quick responses.

September 28, 2010 at 2:03 am in reply to: Need to know how to “add, insert” chapters in Vegas.Hi John,
I am new to the Vegas product after editing for the past 10 years on a Matrox/Premiere system. I feel very old! I go way back to the Media 100 and even deck to deck 3/4″ editing days so please bear with my dumb questions.
I have had the system for about 10 days. In Vegas, I have managed to complete a basic Bat mitzvah video. On my oId system, I went through a painful process of printing to tape and then burning DVD’s to an external consumer DVD recorder for the past three years. The only plus was that it automatically inserted chapters every five minutes. As I have looked through this forum, the only posts I could find on this subject for DVD Architect lead me to believe that it cannot do this. Is there a setting or button that will allow me to take a master from Vegas, import it into DVD architect and automatically insert chapter points every 5 minutes or so? I have some basic package type videos that I can get out while learning to create menus and chapter DVD’s for my more elaborate packages that are waiting to be completed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was unable to coax my old system to get me through the year, so I am very much under the gun now to complete roughly 16 summer weddings/events as soon as possible, with the fall season still very much in full swing. Would not have switched gears in mid stream like this under normal circumstances, but really had no choice. I imagine I will be a frequent visitor to Creative Cow for the foreseeable future.
Thanks. Dan Myers
