I believe imovie does transcode the files. But it probably has to be a fairly recent version of imovie to recognize the avchd. Good luck.

I imported/transcoded files into imovie once when I first got my camera, and before I had Final Cut. It seemed pretty easy, from what I remember. Plug the disk into the computer and launch imovie. But it has been a while.

Actually the HMC150 price at B&H is $2,795, $200 cheaper than my previous post. (You just have to click “Add to cart” to get lower price.) So it looks like the price difference is only $300 between the two.

From what I understand, the biggest drawback is low light. Same for the HMC40. So if you’re filming interviews inside, you’d need extra lighting in many cases. The HMC150 has come down in price, and is currently only $500 more the the HMC80. The general comments are that the HMC150 does much better in low light situations, which will help out when you aren’t outside or with supplemental lighting for indoors.

Though my experience with the “Check Card” message has not been as rosy as yours.
I’ve treated my SanDisk Extreme Class 10 with TLC, and I still get the scary message from time to time.Dan S.

Just to throw in my bit as well, having owned the 150 for about a year.
I love the cam, and it takes sweet images. I feel it was a great learning tool for me.
Biggest drawback is the SD card–both in terms of dependability and colorspace quality.
Which is making me consider selling and buying a used HPX170 before embarking on a serious project I’m planning.Dan S.

Hey…just wanted to say that I really enjoyed our piece.
Love the interviews, nicely framed, very interesting and listenable, clear audio, nice natural lighting (did you add any lights to any of the daylight shots?)
Important story to be told, and nice to hear it from those folks who have great stories.Couple thoughts: Any way to break up the talking heads with more live action footage.
Or maybe a segment in the middle that has just some music with some landscape shots and announcer voice-over?
There were a couple easy-fix edit glitches, where someone comes in and you hear the very tail end of their last sentence before they start.
And is it possible, by adding some live footage, and/or new voice-over to make it feel like there’s a story –beginning, middle and end?Just a few thoughts, but very nicely done.
And great to see something of import being done with the 150!Dan S.
