Terrence.. 5 years later still trying to figure this out.

I couldn’t quite follow how to make the matte. I have the shape on the image I cut out. I have my white title and my black title but don’t quite understand how to make the matte. Sorry if i’m being stupid here but when I put the animatte effect shape on v3 (on the video) the black title on v2 and the white title on v1 i just get a mixdown with my shape cut out and a black background. putting a matte key on this takes out more than just the background.

I downloaded this calculator but it doesn’t seem to make sense to me. It says that if I want to hit 21:30 in my 29.97 drop frame sequence my 23.98 sequence needs to be 00:26:52;13. I don’t see how that makes any sense. Am I using the calculator incorrectly?
