happy to hear you solved your problem by using a different workflow.

gamma-problems with mainconcept encoders are a bad, bad, bad problem with it (especially under MAC OS). I have been in meetings with them several times (especially with their own Mainconcept Reference Encoder).

I hope these guys will fix it soon. I will have another meeting with them soonish, but I´m bussy doing other stuff at the moment, and their developement is very, very, veeeeery slow. 🙁

sorry to say that – but indeed – apples compressor is the only way to assure that colors will match under mac so at the moment.

could you please tell us which version of encore do you use? I remember encore previous CS5.0 had a problem with it.

hey paul,
one issue might be, that blu-ray only have 8bit@4:2:0 – and I guess the 10bit>8bit-crossconversion within AME is not very good.

another issue might be 10.7.3. as it is working with AV-foundation.

have you tried to export your DPX-sequenz from within premiere to a apple pro res quicktime-movie?!

you should try an older system like 10.6.8.

it´s a question of your distribution-area. if you are in europe (like me), then it wouldn´t be a problem to work with 1080p25, but be awared, that blu-ray could only handle 1080i50, so it will be a 108psf25 at last.

if you need to produce an international BD it´s highly recommended to go 1080p24 as 25/50fps are not supported from the player in USA, japan and many more countries.

you wont see the full image on a TV that you could see within your edit-programm.

that´s action-save-area, it´s about 10% loose from the outer border of your image and you are NTSC DVD, so your picture will be cropped from 720×486 to 720×480.

if you presume that your HD-film will fit on 720×486, then indeed – there will be some cropping on the SD-side, but it will be on your top and bottom end.

if you would like to demux the disc and do a new authoring on that, I would use TSMuxer, as it would not create valid elementary stream.

larry applegate did a lot research on that and tests with eclipse verifier – they all fail.

I would advice to use EasyBD Pro or better, as it has a complete BD-Reauthor-Function.

ok, it´s PC-soft, but it will create 100% valid streams and could handle all that might be on original BD (except BD-j).

you can try/test the application for about 20days at full function.

in your first chapter you are talking about blu-ray and in the 2nd you are talking about DVD.

if you are going to create an SD-DVD from your HD-MPEG2 the entire assets will be transcoded again of course.

what encore is doing with your video needs to be set in the transcoding-setting of your project – that´s what you are doing at the very beginning, when you are creating a new project.

3 other points:

– I would never use pro res LT to create an blu-ray out of it and I would never use encore to create SD DVDs

– if I have DVD Studio, as encore has far to much limitations and bugs.

– if you would like to create a blu-ray I would use H264 instead of MPEG2HD, it´s got better picture-quality at lower bitrates.

now we got to the point…. 😉

well – there are some ugly things with encore and you hit it straight away.

encore could not handle the entire BD-spec and creating an looping video-file will allways get a short black-frame at the end (by encore). this will only happen, if you are using H264-files, as far as I remember it wont happen if you use MPEG2HD for blu-ray.

if you would use this 16sec-film, and repeat it over and over, I would advice to use DVD Logic EasyBD:

you can also create a seamless playlist with 100 playlist-items.

you can´t handle it this way using encore – but why would you like to do that?

if you are going to repeat the same film over and over – just do the same as what you could do within DVD Studio – set the end-action to link to the start of your timeline again – that´s all.

no copy/past is needed… in both programms.
