I would start with deleting the preferences.

there is a special deal from DVDLogic until end of july for their software 33-50% off, depending on the suite you would like to buy.

if you are not that family with BD-spec, EasyBD Studio would be a good choice for your start.

it contains IG-Editor the editor for your interactive graphics (which is your menu-grafix) and QuickBDMenu, which could help you create your menu very fast.

note: DVDLogic software could not create replication-master BDCMF yet. if you need to do this you need to buy blustreak tracer CMF as well. but this (all toghether) is a lot cheaper than buying DoStudio, Scenarist or Sony Bluprint.

it is one of encores shortcomings, that you can not create scripting, that would be necessary if you working on a multi-language-DVD/BD. if you are on a mac and have the finalcut 7-suite you can use DVD Studio Pro to do so.

if you need to work with encore on pc or mac – you can tweek the muxed DVD afterwards to do what you want.

on a mac you can use dvdafteredit, on a PC you can use ifo-edit. coding on a spec-level that means. dedicated knowledge will be requried.

and: dvdafteredit is no more working on systems higher than mac os 10.6.

hey guys,
you should be awared that PAL could be upper AND lower field first. depending on the used codec.

all DV-codecs (DV, DVC-pro25 and 50) are lower, but DVCPRO HD is upper, same as PRO RES, DNX, uncompressed SD/HD.

encore transcode-settings could only be set to lower field, but this wont cause any problem with upper assets, they wont be transcoded.

PC or MAC? if you´re on mac and have MAC OS <=10.6 running, you could get the demo-version of DVDAfteredit. there you could see if a valid layerbreak has been set.

my very good advice is: dont do this!

encore is definitly no editing-software and every!! authoring-application is expecting encoded assets. some (like encore + dvd studio) can handle unencoded assets, but that´s not the usual way.

you workflow might be as follow:

1. export your complete film out of FCP as selfcontained movie.
2. encode it using compressor or adobe media encoder
3. then start authoring your BD with the previously encoded assets.

JPEG2000 within MXF-wrapper is NO MXF OP1a, what you are looking for is a DCP – digital cinema package, that gots JPEG2000 within MXF-wrapper.

there is some freeware and also expensive applications and/or hardware that can do this.

to create a BD and a DVD should be done in different projects and differently encoded assets.

I would never use a H264-file as source for SD-DVD, as it´s highly compressed material. for your SD-DVD you should do a 2nd encoding using a SD-MPEG2-setting.

best result will be if you will scale-down your HD-video prior encoding.

accoding to your default-sqeeze-setting: it makes NO sence to deinterlace MPEG2-video if it is interlaced source, as you´ll loose motion-sharpness on the video. you should allways encode interlaced video interlaced with same field-dominance as the source.

in your case if your source is HD it should be upper field first. PAL mostly is upper first, only all DV-videos (DV, DVCAM, DVC-PRO) use lower first.

better keep that in mind.
