as long your transcoding-setting fits to the source, everything will be fine.

1080i is upper field first, ntsc normaly is lower first, but in your case you need to take care that your SD-transcoding-setting is upper field, too.

windows media player is NOT a certified DVD-playback-software, only totalmedia player and some others are, and of course the mac-player is certified.

most win7-systems wont have the windows media-player with the MPEG2-playback-component, so you wont be able to playback DVDs.

it´s a licences-thing!

and finally: if the disc would be a replicated disc, it would behave the same way on mac-player as well.

I´ve tested things like this in the very past! in that reason be awared allways to have a black track as the firstplay-item (best position) placed within VTS1.

most player-software (even some players) do not work tight to the specs, theses manufacturers interprete the specs more like a “guideline”.

the result is allways the same: misbehaveior while navigating through the disc.

this is a spec-problem!

especially with replicated DVDs, but also with DVD-R/+R the players expecting to play a real videotitle (VTS), not any video title set menu (VTSM) as first-play. this is necessary to keep the players resume-buffer happy.

in that reason: NEVER use a menu as first-play-option, always use a short (3-5sec.) track as first play of any DVD. could be an FBI-warning or a black-track with silence AC3-audio.

I guess this will solve your problem here as well.

are you talking about one timeline with the entired concert, or are you talking about having cut the whole concert intl little pices and put them on several timelines within encore?

the only thing you need to take care of is a progressive workflow, so your shots and animations needs to be 25p.

so your workflow should be:

1.edit your film and export it as apple pro res with 25fps (if your on mac) or maybe avid DNX HD 185mbit (on mac and pc). MOV or AVI, whatever you prefer.

note: for avid dnx, you need to download the dnx-installer from the avid-website (for free).

2. after you´ve exported your film, you need to reimport the previous exported film. then right-click on it, then modify>interprete footage as…..

set the framerate to 23,98fps, create a new sequenz with the 23.98fps, drag your clip into the sequenz and export again as MOV or AVI.

voila, here you are with your 1080p23.98-master for BD and DVD.

I´ll jump in,
wick, the best way to go is: 23.98fps on BD for progressive material and there are several reasons for this:

1. if you need to do international distribution 25fps wont work with BD, as 1080i25 is mandatory for europe and australia only. all other players wont play 25fps.

2. you should edit your film in 25fps, export the master and then do a conforming from 25fps to 23.98fps – that´s a simple and common process. in fact it´ll slow down your video + audio 4% but that´s ok.

3. it´s very simple to create a 29.98 NTSC-DVD from 23.98fps HD-master. all encoders will create the necessary 3:2 pulldown.

4. blu-ray wont support 1080p50 as it´s NOT a part of the BD-specs.

so, if you allreasy shot on 25fps progressive you´ll be fine, if you´ll shot all pictures, you can choose the framerate that would fit in your workflow or for the media you´ll end up with.

forgot to tell – I´m using DVD Studio Pro from Apple on MAC-computers. best choice besides Sonic/Rovi scenarist SD.

I´ve got a demo-version from vegas over here, I could have a look in the next days, so I might be able to answer your question according to vegas-output/export.

I don´t know which template you can use for the export out of vegas, as I don´t use it. I´m a mac-user and the most easy way is to export your viedeo as self contained AVI or MOV. and then afterwards use a 3rd party encoder that could encode closed GOP and constant bitrates.

TMPEnc would be a good choice I guess.
