DVD burning question
I’m burning 1080i footage to DVDs with Encore. When it transcodes it down to 720×540 or whatever, will it screw up the fields and create a weird looking picture?. I ask because, if I need to resize interlaced footage, my normal workflow is to do a deinterlacing pass first, then do the resizing pass, otherwise it gets screwed up if you just try to resize interlaced footage.

as long your transcoding-setting fits to the source, everything will be fine.1080i is upper field first, ntsc normaly is lower first, but in your case you need to take care that your SD-transcoding-setting is upper field, too.

Thanks. But if I encode a DVD with upper fields first in the US rather than lower fields won’t hat playback janky on a DVD player?

NO – important is to use same field-order as the source-material.
