Give the encoding application the same clip as you are working on, there’s no reason to introduce an intermediate codec into your workflow.

I think one could summarise by saying that it is clear (more so than at any time recently) that you should be delivering your content encoded with H.264. It is clearly going to be the future delivery format of choice (if not already); viewable using Flash, sliverlight or the iPhone (and many other mobile devices). On2 has, and always will be fighting a loosing battle. The sad thing for them is that they keep making stupid claims about the superiority of their codec over H.264 that are so easily debunked in most, but not all cases. – See Doom9 forums and here:

No worries.

The bottom line here is that if you scale 4:3 dv to fully fit into a 16:9 frame, you will loose a fair bit of the picture and it will look pretty crap and pixelated. Compressor will do a bit of a better job than FCP, but you will find FCP much easier to realize visually what the end result will look like. There are other applications like shake and AE, as well as plugins for FCP that can do a better job. I’m at the pub so I can’t send you any links at the moment.

That doesn’t make any sense. DV is DV. 720×480 NTSC, 720×576 PAL – you can’t get it any bigger than that.

Are you saying you have some 4:3 content you want to make 16:9?

1080i should be deinterlaced during the transcode to SD.

Compressor is capable of *much* higher quality scaling and deinterlacing than Squeeze, when used correctly.
