I swear by Maxell, who actually make their own media. (Back in the day I always used their audio cassettes and reel-to-reel media followed by their VHS tapes!)

Rich, I kind of agree with you although the US Government does not equal the world (despite what they might think).
MPEG-2 and as such DVD is the probably the worlds most populat video ‘format’

“They are likely to make minor updates but nothing like making it 64bit. The application needs to be re-written (it’s written in .net) and the interface overhauled completely. (it’s one of the worst commercial UI’s I’ve used, other than Windows in general of course!)

You don’t need Quicktime. VLC (https://www.videolan.org) is a free open source player that plays pretty much anything including H.264.
No point in doing option 2 as you’ll be compressing compressed content.

Flash can contain CBR or VBR video codecs but not Flat rates. You are not stupid, it’s the same for most ‘containers’ eg MOV, MXF, AVI adn so on.
All keyframe is call I-Frame or contrained, where each frame is of a fixed and usually large size adn typically never used for delivery.
Regarding 1000 or 1024, it depends what group you come from: [source wikipedia] but Digital Rapids are right!

You can’t compare WMV 9 to H.264, indeed many would argue that even VC-1 is not as good as H.264.

You cannot access good enough H.264 output in Compressor for use as archive, as far as I’m concerned.
I’d leave it as ProRes and given the cost per MB of BluRay discs along with how fragile they are and the low transfer rates – I’d archive to spinning disk.
