I, along with others I know export as a Quicktime Movie, either by reference or self-contained, using sequence settings.

Export using Compressor has always caused problems in my experience.

The Cineform codec is the ideal solution here but it’ll cost you.

I agree, unless you are using the best quality resize option, frame controls are best left off, or you could set them to automatic.

So you shot 1080p and encoded using a preset expecting 1080i?

Looks like you’re trying to deinterlace progressive source content.

Well you obviously can’t go straight from 1080i to 480i, you have to deinterlace first. Why don’t you go straight to 480p??

In that case, what codec are you outputting to and are you applying any resizing or other frame control?

Vudu have some very bright guys on board, that’s for sure. They’ve invested in encoding technologies and appear to know what they are on about.

The clip presented is certainly encoded from very high quality progressive source material, possibly using the x264 codec. It’s highly unlikely that they used an ‘off the shelf’ application and if they did they certainly didn’t use one of the supplied presets!

Setting to ‘Output Fields’ to ‘Same as source’ simply refers to the scanning method, which could be either Progressive, Top field first or Bottom field first.

You then have three methods of deinterlacing to choose from, Fast, Better, Best with Best taking considerably longer than Fast.

So, if you have interlaced source and you want progressive output, you’d set Output Fields to Progressive and then choose a deinterlace method.

If you are going from interlaced to interlaced, then you’d set ‘Same as source’ and ignore the deinterlace setting. Compressor only deinterlaces jobs that need it. (i.e. deinterlacing always needs to happen if you apply a resize)

Ok. I got this to work using Audacity, which is free. https://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You need to import as raw data and choose VOC ADPCM as the format type.

One I did that I needed to slow down the speed of the track quite dramatically using the built in filter.

I did this on a Mac, your mileage may vary using Windows.
