Oh yes, I know the fx can be manipulated many ways. I was just hoping there were some examples somewhere of some of them.

I’m working in 24 fps. So would that be 8 + 21/24?

I pasted that script in, changing the 8 and 10 (assuming that was referring to time) to 8:21 and 10:19 b/c those are actually the exact times. I got this error:

Thank you.
Question…I want the layer to, for the first 8 seconds, be transparent, then at like 8 sec, 1 frame, to start the blinking, then 2 seconds later, be transparent again, how would I need to modify the expression? (I know I can just move the layer over but assuming I could not for some reason).**I look down at where you’re standing

Thanks. It didn’t occur to me to have him in front of something first, even though I know that technically. I’m sorry I’m so dense. I’m not usually, lol.

Well choke seemed like the best way to describe what I’m trying to do. It may not be right. If you can picture the image I posted as the full silhouette of a man w/out any fx. Then it transforms into that pic, which looks like the edges moving inward to me. If that’s not what it is let me know what it is.

Thanks. I tried those things and its still coming up black w/white outline.
My image is a silhouette of a guy who’s all black. So the transparency is around him. My bg in AE is black but I’ll have smoke behind him so you’ll see some of his outline.
I have, in photoshop, set him as white in the alpha channel, black everywhere else.
I’ve saved WITH the alpha and a trans bg as a targa and tiff–didn’t work. I’ve saved as a PS doc NOT including the alpha channel and WITH a transparent bg–same result. Interpret footage didn’t have any effect. Here is the image:
(obviously the actual bg is transparent but I can only upload jpgs)
And here is how it comes in in AE:

Thank you. I’ll try those out.

Usually I end up picturing what I want (from what I know) in my head and storyboarding the general effect in words. The mood I’m after is dark, mysterious, subtle, psychological horror, a bit off/grainy but not too much. Like the hopeless feeling one gets when seeing the intro to Lost Highway, but not that look necessarily.
I’ve storyboarded out my main frames (18), amazingly, so I’m after trying to get the effects/mood I want onto the computer. Its a 30 second intro sequence.
I’m going to look at what you suggested. Also, what I have in my head involves some jumpy text doubling, in/out of focus text (maybe only a few letters), vignette like effect closing in on text, all the way to blacking it out, some flashing images–some grainy, some blurry silhouettes.
I’m hoping this isn’t too hard. We get very little time on this. Any insight or other ideas, I’m open to.**I look down at where you’re standing
