Nope. Sorry. Had to make them all the same color. In my case they were all floor tiles so I guess I could have masked them and duplicated them with different color settings. Cheers.

    Sorry Mike.

I really couldn’t fix it. For the two or three shots it didn´t work, I just had to wait for AE to recalculate each frame again every time I opened the project (and wanted to see any frame from that shot), for the other 10+ shots, it worked just fine. I recommend importing the clip and doing it all over again (If it´s not TOO long), or just bear with it till you render.

BTW, this effect was the whole reason I upgraded to 16GB of RAM.

  • Thanks for your replies guys.

Tudor, rendering half comp in a machine and the other half in the other is exatcly what I´ve been doing since It´s the only thing I can do.
The drawback is that both computers don´t have the same speed, so if I set up half and half, by the time the faster one finishes it´s part, the slower one will keep rendering for a while.
The solution to this would be to time both machines so I can get the speed ratio between them so I can calculate the percentage of the sequence I have to set each one to.
Of course I´m just being whimsical, I just set them about 40% – 60% and it´s about right.
Even so, not every frame of a comp takes the same amount of processing, so I end up with one machine rendering it´s part in less than 5 minutes, while the other takes almost two hours.

Also, when I use this method, I don´t set them to TIFF sequence like I would for real network rendering. Instead I render to two separate video files and then put them together in Premiere.

Stefan. In both my machines I set the time span to the length of comp.
So that shouldn´t be an issue.

At Adobe´s site, this same issue was addressed by not using multiprocessing, which I´m not doing anyway.

    I´m totally clueless.

Thanks Bill! I just tried it, but that´s doing what I already did with the hue/saturation effect. It affects ALL tiles the same(they´re all in the same shape layer, remember it´s only one square shape with the repeater). I need something to make them all to change colors independently and randomly.

Well, I opened my project, with all intentions of coping the rotobrush information to a new mask and see what happens.
Just to get frustrated again, I cliked on the freeze button yet again… and today it worked! Altought the sign stated “66 frames”, whereas the clip is 32 frames total! Anyway, the only factor that changed was that I resetted my iMac. Perhaps when this glitch occurs one must reset one´s computer since reseting AE itself doesn´t work?

This REALLY eludes me! I´ll keep you posted if this happens again.

Thanks for your quick response, Dave.
I really did look at all the videos and read the entire “rotobrush manual” at Adobe´s site. In fact, like I said earlier, in some clips I don´t have a problem, and in some others, I do.

What bugs me is that the matte works, but AE won´t let me freeze all frames of it!
Otherwise, the tool works just fine, only thing is it has to recalculate everytime I open AE and look at any of those clips.

Perhaps I make a little video showing what´s happening, I really don´t think I´m missing anything, but just in case the obvious eludes me.
