    John,

Sounds like you have a damaged file/folder structure (like I had). Try making a backup of everything on your camera (or memory card), than ON THE CAMERA, delete all files (movies and images). Shoot a quick test video, hook the camera up to the computer, start FCP and Log and Transfer. Should work now, this is what did it for me.

Thanks Doug for all the help.

I backed up the whole directory of the camera. Then I deleted (on the camera) all files (i.e. video and picture). After shooting new footage, FCP is able to recognize and transfer!

It was the directory structure that was messed up.

  • Thanks again so much for responding so quickly.

When I Add Custom path to the camcorder it gives me this message:

“AVCHD” contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.”

No matter to what folder of the folder hierarchy I point FCP to…..

Might there be a problem with the folder structure? (I know a collegue of mine deleted some scenes from the camcorder directly from within the folder: AVCHDBDMVSTREAM. Has this messed up the structure, or does this not cause the problem above?)

  • sorry, I must add that I am new to video editing. With all due respect (i.e. many thanks for your answer) Doug, your reply to me is like abracadabra….

What exactly do you mean? If there are any presets I need to get right in order for it all to work, please elaborate a little.
