I think I have found a fix

In this case my footage is NTSC, I am converting to PAL in Compressor as my customer is able to start the DVD (assuming that this makes it not a Country code issue) but it is playing slow and erratic ( these are NTSC PAL issues, I think…maybe) and although most europe DVD players can switch to play “as is” I can’t gaurentee my customer has a multiformat TV or monitor…………There-for, I am converting and building a DVD with PAL MPEG 2’s and making sure I have at-least 1 & 2 Country code (although DVDSP 4 defult setup is “all” Country code) set.

Your configuration looks OK so long as your drive system can handel the speed needed for 10bit or 8 bit uncompressed
SD or HD please check with Blackmagicdesign for the system requirements. Certanly Your Volume (2T) is important,
but, speed will determine the amount of Track of A/V you’ll be able to run at once.

Also I would like to here how the Quads are working with all the above hardware and software (one would think , GREAT ) however it wouldn’t hert to check with all the Manufactures before buying.

What Trevor is saying here “We normally input from a DVCam deck (DSR1500P or DSR45P) via component analogue as uncompressed so that the clips do not require rendering. All graphics and any uncompressed vision would be true 4:2:2. DV material would be in a uncompressed codec, but would still have the original data loss associated with the DVCam compression.” Is that the DVCAM signal is converted through a Component (YUV) or SDI out put from these
DVCAM Decks.

I do somthing like Trevor. I use a Canopus ADVC 1000 Firewire to SDI 10 bit uncompressed Bi-directional converter.
I connect my Sony DSR 30 or my JVC DV6000 decks Firewire i/o to the ADVC 1000 that out-puts to SDI 10 bit uncompressed ( Digibeta signal ) and edit in the uncompressed world. You could also use the Convergent Design
SD- Connect unit there’s a link advertised in the upper right corner of this web page, instead of the Canopus ADVC 1000.

Advantages:
1). (If your original DVCAM footage is good) It will remain good and retain “Lossless quality” (it’s integraty) throughout
the edit process.
A). Graphics and composite work look much better, they don’t have the Gradiating and artifacts that are associated
with working in DV.
B). I to, have a Beta SP deck and this makes a nice out-put media through my Decklink Extreme card which supports
both SDI and YUV out.
C). If your out put is to DVD you should see a marked improvment (depending on your MP2 compression skills)
D). I hesitate to make this bold of a statment, but I find even after after taking my footage in at 10 bit, edit it (Multiple
cuts, add some Graphics, in and out of AE and send movies back to FCP), that, if I go out of my Bi-Directional Converter back to DVCAM/DV, it still looks better than if I do a straight DVCAM/DV edit .

Disadvantages:

1). HARD DRIVE SPEED AND SPACE, Uncompressed footage requires a lot of space and a high data Rate
you will need a decent RAID to handel the workflow.

2). It cost more :)

I’ll try all the above, and also run a diagnostic on the G5 as It did Blow a CPU in the first month of use and I had a DVI AGP card go bad in the
the Summer (8 months later), these are all suspect issues to me as to If I may actualy have a greater problem (Like a Lemon Mac)….

My cable provider is on the blink at the studio and I’m connecting to the internet Via Starbucks down the street so tomorrow
later I will respond to the latest outcome….

Here’s answers to your questions

1). Q. Is the G5 you are using now the same as the one you were previously using successfully with a DeckLink card?
A). YES
2). Q. Are you using NTSC DV files in Final Cut Pro with a DeckLink card?
A). YES (with BMD Decklink NTSC DV Easy setup)
3). Q. Are you saying you ran a software update to Final Cut Pro HD 5.0.3 or are you referring to some other file such as a project file? How did you go about updating the file and movies?
A). still in FCP 5.0.2 on the studio system. DV is catured Via DTE DV 5000 and file transfered, ( however I have captured form Deck Via FW directly into the studio system and have had the same results). in reference to updating to FCP 5.0.2 I mean that on the Power Book I am still working in OS 10.3.9 and FCP 4.5…

This jerky/stopping playback happens even in 8bit and 10 bit uncompressed easy setup as well……..
I am testing other drive system on the studio setup tonight to see if it is a Huge issue.. I am so backed up with Offline EDL’s needing onlineing (like yesterday) that I need to take a Editor chill-pill…(whatever that is, mental EXLAX or somthing) .

Just for the record: When I check in my Apple SYSTEM Profiler Under Hardware, I can’t find my Decklink card anywhere, however in PCI hardware I find in slot 3 (here the card is)a PCI-BRIDGE
VENDOR ID: 0X3288
DEVICE ID: 0X9104
REV. ID: 0X0002

I’m running QT 6.5.2
FCP 4.5 (soon to be 5)

I am haveing this problem for over two years on three systems.
All three are still having this issue.. you say to reinstal
FCP, but could it be the same on all 3 machines..
Or is it just a setting I’m missing ?
