    I think the problem is that you can’t calculate the angles independently and then just plug them in. If you watch what happens when you orient a plane by hand you’ll see that the angles interact. Unfortunately, I think you’re going to have to use 3D rotation transforms (matrix math). It’s challenging the first time you do it, but rewarding. 🙂

    29.97 fps footage in a 30 fps comp?

    That should work. I can’t think of a better way, unless you plan to do a lot of this and want to dive into scripting.

    As far as I know, there’s no way for a an expression to access info about its comp’s parent comp except by using the name of the comp. It makes sense, really, if you think about it. A particular precomp can be nested into any number of parent comps, and once a precomp frame is rendered, that image will be cached and used in any parent comps. So the image can’t be different (e.g., different text) from one instance to the next. That’s the way I understand it anyway.

    You could pull text from an array based on the comp name. For example, if your comps were named “Comp 1”, “Comp 2”, etc, you could use something like this to pull text out of the array based on the numeric part of the comp name:

    nameArray = [“first comp”, “second comp”, “third comp”, “fourth comp”];

    idx = parseInt(thisComp.name.split(” “)[1]);
    nameArray[idx – 1]

    Are you using Levels, or Levels(Individual Controls)?

    Do you want it to change every frame? If so, this should do it:

    minDegrees = 15;
    maxDegrees = 45;

    frame = Math.round(time/thisComp.frameDuration);
    if (frame%2){
    random(minDegrees,maxDegrees)
    }else{
    0
    }

    Oops,

    I that one had an error. Try this:

    y = value [1];
    val = thisComp.layer(“XSlider”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);

    period = Math.floor(val/10);
    x = ease (val%10, 9, 10, period*100, period*100 + 100);
    [x, y]

    Play around with this:

    y = value [1];
    val = thisComp.layer(“XSlider”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);

    period = Math.floor(val/10);
    x = ease (val%10 +1, 9, 10, period*100, period*100 + 100);
    [x, y]

    I’m not sure what levels you’re talking about. Sorry if I missed a key point.

    You are correct, you would just change the 10 to change the delay.

    Math.floor((index – 1)/3)

    just groups the layers into groups of 3. The result will be that layers 1 through 3 will be in group 0, layers 4 through 6 will be in group 1, etc. The expression then uses that value to calculate the delay for each layer (the delay for layers 0 through 3 will be zero, for layers 4 through 6 it will be 10 frames, etc.)
