  • Thanks for the response, Shane.

Lots of tests, but in the end I transcoded to Apple ProRes 422 MXF within the 4K project which resulted in a format of 4096X2160/29.97. And then opened that bin in the 1080p project and cut it into a sequence with 1080p and got the error. Kind of expected that.

Then I tried bringing the sequence into the 1080p project and transcoding to DNxHD 145 MXF. It created 1080p clips but still gives me the error.

Wasn’t sure what to do with the Raster Dimensions setting…I had it at “Project Dimensions (proxy off) on both of these.

Yes I do, but once consolidated, it adds .new to each clip. So although the timecode is the same, it seems to recognize as a new clip. Which is understandable, but it’s seems odd that it can’t just see the timecode and re-import based on that alone.

The consolidated clips. Once I consolidated, there was no reason to keep the original as it’s not what I would use to edit with.
Sounds like this space saving maneuver turns out to be a HUGE mistake. UGH…

Thanks Michael. Some really good info there!
Unfortunately, this particular production company is in MC 6.5.3 mode, but there seem to be a few solutions to this problem. Thank you so much for your feedback.

Thanks for the response, John. I will give that a try.
Just for the heck of it, I tried exporting the file and then creating a 23.98 project and importing it just to see the results. When I re-exported it, the quality was horrible. So crossing that off my list. ; )

Hi Shane. Thanks for the response.
The footage was shot on a RED, then transcoded to 1080p/23.98.
The Avid project was mistakenly created at 1080p/24 instead of 1080p/23.976. But by the time I discovered this, everything was ingested and there was no turning back due to an aggressive timeline.
The particular spots that are being dubbed are going straight to web (YouTube and Hulu), so why the client wants them sent to the dub house instead of us just compressing for web is confusing. But that is the directive. Seems my only option appears to be to try to convert them to 23.98.

Quick update…I’m able to open the files in Squeeze. Transcoded one short clip and looks pretty decent upon import.

Thanks for all your help on this, guys!! I wish I could report some results here, but a really funny/horrible thing happened. The production company in the UK shipped the footage on a drive that they tossed in a fedex bag with absolutely no packing material. After it’s trans-atlantic ass whopping, the drive was dead on arrival. Unbelieveable. So now we’re waiting for them to ship another (properly packed) drive. Hope to get on this project soon.
