You need to duplicate the clip. Easiest way is to hold option(alt) and shift then drag the clip up onto video track 2 (assuming your clip is on V1). On the clip in V2 add your blur from Video filter menu. Then you need to add a mask shape onto your clip on V2 (blurred clip). Think it’s under – Filters – Matte – Mask Shape. Once done double click the clip into the viewer and adjust the mask to fit. Adjust the blur if needed. You can add mask feather if want to soften the edges of the mask. You may need to animate the mask with keyframes if the object moves into focus.
I may get shouted down for this so apologies if so, but I think DVI actually carries audio in it’s signal – as unbelievable as this may sound give it a try.
1.If you’ve shot using DV then choose the appropriate Easy Set up from the the Final Cut Pro menu. This will make sure all your settings a geared toward capturing DV via firewire.
2.I presume you’re capturing via fireire? Make sure your camera or deck is compatible with FCP (It probably should be). The apple website has some useful info on which setting should be used when capturing with cameras. https://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/resources/supportdevices.php
3.What version of FCP are you using? If it’s 5.0.4 or earlier and you’re using an intel based mac then this can cause many problems because basically it’s not designed to work on those machines.
yeah, it has worked in the past. And having checked no a couple of other Macs i can use those machines, it’s just the two machines where i trashed things. Maybe i trashed the wrong stuff? Oh dear.
