And to clarify, when I am boosting my input gain my faders are at nominal level.

Also Sam,

Would running the tape out of the fp33 into the Sony PCM line in be a summed (L R) mono track?

Ty and Sam,

Thank you! I have never looked into the Sony PCM-M10 but will now. I have used the Zoom H4n many times but have never been satisfied with it’s “line” level 1/4 inputs. I always get a very hot signal still and in the end even when I am pushing towards peaking it I still get a fairly quiet recording. Thanks for the advice!!

Any advice is always reassuring, thanks. As for gear right now I have a Shure fp33 w/break away cable, a Sanken CS3e shotgun, 2 sennhieser lav systems, tram TR50’s, boom and rode blimp. I do not have a recorder which is my next purchase. The companies I work with have a H4n which I use but would prefer to get something better. The Sound Devices 552 is my goal but might get something cheaper in the mean time.
