I use Realtek audio manager on my editing computer…(the one with Audition and Audacity 1.2.6). I lucked into the solution. On the Realtek mixer I muted the stereo mix channel. That way I can hear recorded channels and not re-record them on the new channel I’m recording on. If you’re using the windows mixer, try muting channels and see which works.

Hey Adam, I feel your pain. All I know is: Audacity 1.2.3 will record a new track while I listen to the previously recorded track or tracks, without re-recording them to the new track. I do this by simply hitting the red record button. I have audacity 1.2.6 on another computer (the computer I record with Audition). For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to do the same. I notice there’s an Audacity 1.3.9 now, so I think I’ll try that one. As for Audition, I finally found out I had to go into my windows ‘mixer’ and adjust my sliders until I found the right config that would do a playback without recording the playback.

Thanks Tommy. I did get it working. I tried every configuration possible, and only after rebooting with the keyboard plugged in, did it finally work. Now it works all the time. Probably a Windows issue recognizing the input.

Done and done. Thanks Mike. I don’t use a mixer and I tried every configuration known to man with my sound card and audition etc.. Then I rebooted with my keyboard already plugged in and presto…it works. I don’t know why it works now, but it do.

Thanks Derrick…It was probably something like that. I tried every configuration possible and couldn’t make it work…Then I removed my sound driver and reinstalled it….Now it works!

Hey John…From one newb to another…If you ever figure this out, let me know the answer. It’s no problem using Audacity (free yes, but not as clean a recording, or as good a program), but I can’t make it work in Audition….and I haven’t heard anything from anyone on Cow yet.

Can anyone tell me how to record live to a second track while listening to the first track without recording the first track to the second? (Audition 1.5) ….Electric piano line in to computer.

Another thing Pattie…(not sure if it’s the same in soundbooth), but in audition, one can: Select File > New…….Audition opens a ‘New Waveform’ window where sample rate, channels (mono or stereo), and resolution can be set. You might check that in Soundbooth. Still, I don’t see a problem with mono vocal recording and then copying the right channel to the left. You will want to record music in stereo though.

I don’t have knowledge about recording audio books, but copying the right channel to the left shouldn’t be a problem for voice over. It is perplexing that your firewire won’t carry stereo to soundbooth…(or soundbooth isn’t recording it as such). You could try another firewire. Not sure how far you’ve gotten with recording, but here’s a link to better audio using Adobe Audition…(soundbooth should have equivalent). Very informative.

It sounds like it might be a mixer setting. What kind of mixer is it, and have you tried your pan settings on channel one of the board and the main outputs?
