  • I hate to drag us back to this, but I don’t think Edius is a “quicky niche player” either. I’ve been using it close to 3 years now and it’s been rock solid with excellent real-time performance. It’s only gotten better since then. Yes it’s a fairly new NLE compared to others, but it’s maturing rapidly and intelligently. Canopus technicians participate in the forums and really listen to customer suggestions. I really like the editing layout and I bet the new version due in April will make it much more competitive with the big boys. My only real complaint has been the lack of 3rd party support. Hopefully that will come along as Edius becomes more popular. Also, from what I understand, it fully supports the HVX-200 workflow right now. Anyway, it might be something to consider before trading up your whole system for another.

This is an extremely painful thought, but if you wait ’til April to buy your HVX, you might get closer to a street price and the CinePorter CP-2 might be available by then. Sounds like the Cineporter’s gonna be sweet. Camera sees it as a huge P2 card, it might only record active frames, and you can plug it in directly to your laptop and transfer files (with metadata! Can’t get that through firewire.
Then again, if you’re making money with your camera now and HD is an absolute necessity, buy the camera and P2 now. It’s not a big investment for a business.

    Wait, now I’m really confused…
The transfer rate of the holographic media is supposed to be around 20MBytes per second. Isn’t that the equivalent to 160Mbits?

    Dohhh!
bits, bytes, bats! Copied it from the article, my mistake.
I’ll write “MBytes” on the chalkboard 10,000 times.

Holy cow! I thought I’d see a chupacabra before I saw an actual working holographic drive.

Bye bye BluRay! Bye bye HDDVD! Have fun sorting that one out while we all buy these instead. 300Gigs @ 160Mbits? Are you kidding me?

Sent that same lame joke to Tosh directly “he” actually wrote back. Maybe they’re not so stiff over at Panasonic after all. I’m starting to like Tosh. Well, not really, but I think I prejudged the site right off the bat. It’s actually not so bad and the guys behind Tosh seem to answer questions enthusiastically.

    Hey,
If anybody happens to run into Tosh, tell him Max Headroom wants to do lunch.
