    George,
Did the camera come with a user manual? If not I suggest you go to this web address:https://www.wtsbroadcast.com/userfiles//PMW-100%20and%20PMW-200%20Manual%20(EN).pdf
and download that badboy. you will find the answer to your question on page 45. It took me 3 minutes to find it. I think you posted your question 6 hours ago. The user manuals for any camera you use are among the most important item you can have with the camera. It’s amazing how much you can learn in just a few minutes. I still find myself looking at the manual for my 27F VariCam and Ive had that for 8 years!! You owe it to yourself and to your clients to know the camera you take into the field.
    Good Shooting

This may sound a little harsh but in the end it will make you better with this or any new camera. READ the user manual. You owe it to yourself and your clients to know about the camera. In this day and age having the user manual on your smart phone ot other device makes it easy to stay up to speed. I unfortunately own 6 different cameras all with their own set of menus. The only way I can keep up is to have each manual in my iPhone, iPad, and laptop. If I have rent a camera I always make sure to ask that a manual be included. But you have to use them. If you have time to post here you have time to look it up

    Joeseph,

Abel Cine Tech has a number of scene files on the blog sites.
As for short depth of field, its tough with the EX3 as its so fast. I try 2 different things:
Distance. Get the camera away from the subject and the subject away from the background.
Light. Get that F-stop open as far as you can. Even if you have to use the nd filters. Its a balance there.
How much light or how little light on the scene. Make it look nice with as little wattage as you can.
I sometimes use the EX3 to B4 adaptor to use my ENG lens. It helps but its still a matter of light and lighting techniques.

As Don says you might try using 2 monitors with at least 1 having SDI loop through but you might also look in the Markerteck catalogue for an SDI splitter. It has 1 in ans 2 outs, it’s passive and reasonably priced

January 9, 2012 at 2:07 pm in reply to: XDCAM Discs + Reuse

The short answer is just reformat and you are off and re-running. You can reformat in either the camera of your deck. Ive been using xd for about 3 years and have not had a problem. Especially after the tsunami in Japan when there was a shortage of disks we had to reuse a bunch of disks. It’s not the most comfortable feeling but there have been no technical problems I can think of. The bigger issue is erasing all of your field masters. Once its gone its gone. If you must then you must but I hope there is an opportunity to at least copy some of the images that you feel might be used in other episodes. Keeping just the show won’t give you much creative ability in a re-edit or the like. If you can keep a few disks worth of stock footage that might take away some of the feeling of loss.

    Good luck with your show

The best move you can make is to download the user manual for this and frankly any
camera or device you use in production. Spend some time with it. I’ve owned a 27F for about 7 years and to this day will find myself cracking the user manual. I also download all my user manuals to my iPad and iPhone.
Its can save a ton of embarrassment in front of a client.

    Good luck with the camera.

June 22, 2011 at 9:47 pm in reply to: Advise on interview mic

    Ron,
Unless there was absolutely no other option I’d never use the camera mic for an interview
that I wanted to use. Sure you can get nat pops and general nat sound but if you are going to use
the audio for interview purposes then you have to have another method. A hard wire lav is a good quick solution and another way might be to use your on camera mic with a short audio cable. Back when I worked local news we would put a coiled cable on the camera mic. It allowed us to use the mic on the camera for “normal” nat sound and we could quickly remove it and hold it in front of the subject for
better “interview” sound. If you dont have a short shot gun mic and your budget can stand it the Sanken CS-1 rocks but there are a bunch of others that are less expensive and work well. You might check out the consignment lists of places like Trew Audio, TAI Audio or Location Sound. There are other places but these are some that Ive purchased from in the past.

    Best of luck
