    Walter,

Im curious, is there a future for cards (in general) if the mac is going to do all that you mentioned?

The reason I ask is that realtime chroma key at dvcpro50 is pretty intense…
Im thinking for acquisition, but how is this gonna play out when everything is taped to a harddrive from the Hd cameras, and you no longer need to capture tape. (I guess the answer lies in the fact that tape isnt necessarily dieing out anytime soon.)

    anyway, interesting.

  • Totally understandable.

Not sure if this is related to the Red thread (rhymes), but I think what happened for the most part is people like myself had questions yet there is not a red forum to discuss these questions…though Im sure there will be soon enough. (And the P2P is the closest in competition in peoples minds at this moment and they used this forum to see how things were stacking up.)

Not sure if that is what this is in reference to, just guessing as I saw one of my post removed. (But I have had problems with posting recently anyway so it could be something completely different.

Again, totally agree with you, as people come here to learn about the product at hand and not have people lure them away.
They have there own forums to do that. 🙂

    Peace to all

April 23, 2006 at 8:21 am in reply to: Cinewave user considering Kona (chroma key???)

    Walter, hey its been awhile.
Met you years back when I lived in the States in Atlanta when the Final Cut User group first started.

Anyway, thanks for the reply, as I have been out of the loop for a year. (been on sabbatical here in Europe.)

I am surprised with as much as apple is pushing the whole Hd and kona stuff that nobody else has this, what i would call, basic feature.
(Its all I did and will do when I pick this up again…shooting Chroma key at dvc-pro 50 and better)

What are the chances of Kona picking this up? Anyone from Kona here, can you say if this is even on your target?

The reason I thought of this to begin with is because a guy named Tim from Red camera supposedly worked for Kona and they (red) are hyping how great of an engineering feat this camera will be, siting for one, Tims experience at Kona and how greatly it (the board) is engineered…yet it misses a feature such as real time chroma key…not to progressive…anyway

Now that Cinewave is sold, who knows its future with the Mac…

Thanks guys, heres hoping that Kona and others jump on this bandwagon.

    Peace

I can respect that, I didnt know you were in the group of the know concerning price.

Well, cool camera, I guess if its to expensive, it was a nice dream while the dream lasted. 🙂
(I mean on my part of wanting to get one.)

    Graeme,

The interview was the main point of the post…exciting, especially if the price is at the point mentioned.
(core teams are known to leak info…these guys both sounded pretty confident.) But…we will see soon enough…it could come in at some insanely high price, who knows for sure.

If they do break through at the price point mentioned (15k), then this is a true revolution in the video world, as RED is claiming, and I will hope to be a part of it.

    Peace

Check out this interview with Red
    https://www.podcast.net/show/184

They reveal quite a bit (along with a statement that it will be around 15k, now this was not the rep that said this, but they sounded like they had the scoop)

This camera will change the way the camera market is. Period.
Look at the specs, the price, and there really is not competition.
Its not another camera coming out trying to patch holes, etc., its actually giving you what you want (your dream camera).

Sound to good to be true? How will they make money?
More people can afford this first of all. Second, they will make it through updates (not camera…it stays good for as long as you need it per say), but firm ware, etc.

Take a liste to the interview.

Those that dont know about Red, the guy that owns Oakely sunglasse (billionaire) who loves to shoot digital video & photography, is behind this. (i believe he owns an 80k canon lens, he buys every camera practically to play with. So he is in the know about this type of thing to be able to create, or hire people to create, a camera that removes the frustrations that we usually have.

    Gods Peace
