  • admin clarification: Cow policy regarding MANUFACTURER posts on competing forums

    Hello All,

Not since the days of the original Media 100 Worldwide Users Group that we started back in 1995, have we allowed a policy wherein one manufacturer was allowed to raid the forum of a competitor.

We have stopped this repeatedly over the years and did so just recently between all of the 10-bit card manufacturers and again when RAID drive manufacturers began trying to use our forums to skim customers from their competitors.

We do not raid our competitors forums and think that it is an ethical issue which keeps us from doing so.

Therefore, we have culled some posts here that were way over the line in our policy and which were quite directly aimed at targeting Panasonic P2 customers by a manufacturer’s personnel.

    That’s a “Bessie No-No” in our book…

    Best regards,

    Ron Lindeboom

I recently read somewhere that Graeme Nattress was involved with a new video camera called RED yet his head was still on the top of the P2 page, a competing product. I was going to mention this extremely disquieting conflict but I notice it is now gone. Bravo to Mr. Nattress and the Cow!

I always learn from what Graeme posts, on what ever topic, and I look forward to more valuable posts on what ever forum he chooses to post on. He has always impressed me as honest and forthcoming not to mention well mannered and reasonable, now, he has proved this with what seems like a stepping down from being a forum leader because of his involvement with a competing product.

Forums like this are easy picking for conflicts and playfulness that borders on criminal, if honesty is a measure. As a frequent visitor to the Cow such attention to these kinds of details makes the visits and the information that much more valuable, thanks for going beyond just letting it fly no matter who or what.

I hope this is not seen as anti Graeme, he knows a lot more then I will ever know on many topics, he is the Ocean I am a sponge, his stepping down speaks volumes about him as a person, all positive.

I will miss him on this forum and look forward to finding him at his next destination. I also feel that it remains to be seen if red is a competitor or simply a different segment of the market.

If RED comes in anywere near the price of the HVX then I think everyone would be surprised. It’s going to be in a completely different market segment than the HVX surely?

    Totally understandable.

Not sure if this is related to the Red thread (rhymes), but I think what happened for the most part is people like myself had questions yet there is not a red forum to discuss these questions…though Im sure there will be soon enough. (And the P2P is the closest in competition in peoples minds at this moment and they used this forum to see how things were stacking up.)

Not sure if that is what this is in reference to, just guessing as I saw one of my post removed. (But I have had problems with posting recently anyway so it could be something completely different.

Again, totally agree with you, as people come here to learn about the product at hand and not have people lure them away.
They have there own forums to do that. 🙂

    Peace to all
