Audio is coming out of the Mac (optical into an outboard DAC) and the video signal is coming out of the Intensity’s HDMI port.
So you say I have to get the Intensity Pro and use the audio out from that? What good is this thing without proper audio sync?
But when I plug the projector into the graphics card (the dual DVI card that comes with the MacPro 8 core – no problema! No issue with sync on the projected image. So it isn’t about projectors and LCDs.
Now what?

It was HDCAM captured via Cinewave.
But I think it has something to do with the difference between the QT player and the FCP.
Someone said it was RGB vs YUV – not sure exactly how this plays out. The clip is YUV – is the QT player doing a (sloppy) YUV to RGB conversion or…?

most likely to do with pixel aspect ratio.
WHA…?!
what format is your HD footage?
1920x1080p Kona’s uncompressed VUY.
…if it is not full raster 1920×1080 and square pixel ratio the QT player doesn’t compensate to display the footage correctly at 16-9.
If you for instance have 1440×1080 then you’ll see that FCP has a pixel aspect ratio for 1440×1080 and not square (sequence-settings or command-zeroto check). In this case FCP compensates correctly for display but QT player just displays the footage with out pixel aspect ratio compensation. That’s interesting. I don’t think it applies, but it is interesting. But wouldn’t that just show up as squeezed image?

I’m using the same monitor for both.

When played via the Quicktime player I’d say the gamma was off. Looks a little washed out and (I might change my mind on this because it sounds impossible) – noisier. But when outputting the same file placed on the FCP timeline – looks great.
And thanks for the compliment! Always welcomed.

EXCELLENT!
Thanks for good news! My friend will be very happy. (Assuming he hasn’t already returned his BM card for a Kona 2).

Yes, but…
I’d much prefer to edit and preview in DVC PRO HD. I know it can be done in DV, but why look at DV when you can look at DVC PRO HD? And…IF you could cut in DVCPRO HD, you can preview it off a PowerBook and right into an HD projector. And you can edit it on HD, which is nice.
So? Can it be done?

What if I want to bring in more material? Will it (Kona 2) capture the Cinewave codec?
And what about render files? Will they be in Cinewave/Targa codec? Or Apple Uncompressed? (I was under the impression the Kona 2 works with Apple’s uncompressed codec).
Thanks,

Ben asked…
– what were you testing on?
2x2Ghz G5 and a 2×2.5Ghz G5.
I’ll give the 9 Mbps a try, but keep in mind the DVC PRO HD codec works just fine.
I’ve been setting the rare window to automatic.
