[Dale Launer] “What if I want to bring in more material? Will it (Kona 2) capture the Cinewave codec?”
As far as I know, the answer is no, it will not capture in the CineWave codec. You need a CineWave board to do that.
You would simply capture in whatever codec matches your original footage. I.e. if you captured 8bit in CineWave, then use the AJA 8bit NTSC (or PAL) preset.
[Dale Launer] “And what about render files? Will they be in Cinewave/Targa codec? Or Apple Uncompressed? (I was under the impression the Kona 2 works with Apple’s uncompressed codec).”
They will be the same as your Sequence setting. Again, you will not be working with the CineWave codecs any longer if you don’t have the CineWave board.
I made the switch almost a year ago now and haven’t looked back. In fact we added a second K2 system to the shop.
