Thanks for the reply. To clarify, the characters are sculptures, not drawings. That’s why I’m not creating them in AE. The puppet tool is a very easy way to mover their arms and legs.

I just tried ProRes 444 and while it does support the alpha channels….it creates huge files. A couple Gigs for a 10 second clip. So that’s not gonna work for me. So my work flow research goes on.

Not mixing streams if I understand your meaning. The project is entirely of footage created in AE. I’m going to try the Prores HQ as it seems to support alpha channels. Thanks again for the great info.

Thanks so much for the advice. I’ll experiment with these. I’m coming to Premiere from FCP and accustomed to transcoding footage (usually to Prores) so it causes as little CPU stress as possible. I know Premiere can cut natively in almost anything, but assume the less compressed the footage the less taxing on the CPU and the faster playbacks.

Thanks. I’m just trying to master a workflow here. I haven’t done much HD work 1080p and it feels odd not to be able to watch a shot. I import such an effect shot into premiere from AE and it is glitchy there, but I can advance frame by frame and see it’s all there. Perhaps cutting in a Prores format would help?

Thanks. So is the common practice to export an AE effects shot at lower res (half or quarter) to check it, then export again lossless for import into Premiere?

  • Isn’t this just a matter of key framing in Z space? Set start point where they are start stacked above the volume, then set an out point spread along the same Z axis. Looks like they added some motion blur as well. Easy-ease would also help.

Thanks, I’ll give that a shot.

I’ve used the change-color brush in Photoshop with good results.

Not sure this would help but there is a “old tv” effect that allows you to control a “venetian blind” effect that might be useful. It slices an image into horizontal layers like an old tv.
