I am covering a creature’s body with fire. This creature is very small in frame 1, but is full-size in frame 120 (as it approaches the camera). I needed to start in frame 120 so that I knew how many “sub-emitters” I needed. (I don’t know how to explain this in PI3 jargon — I click once and an emitter appears, then I move my mouse and click and another appears, linked by a line. I do this until the creature’s entire body is covered with emitters. If the first time I did this was in frame 1, I would have no idea how many emitters I would need for the full-sized creature.

Thank you, O Greatly Not-So-Great One. What you said makes a lot of sense — I’ll try it!

Thanks a lot! Very helpful. (it works!) I really appreciate you both taking the time to help me. This is an amazing program — everytime I use it, I think about how much more time and work it would take to create the same effect with any other program.

Well…I definitley have a lot to learn. I guess I did not understand what you said, because I did not get the desired result.

Essentially what I really want is to have the “flaming trail” effect (as in “fire_01”) without having to drag the emitter to get the effect. That look is exactly what I want. :o\

I really need to work with PI now, even though I have been holding out for the AE plug. If I buy PI3 now, will I get a price break on the AE plugin when it comes out?

Is the development of the AE plug-in such a sticky widget that you can’t give a guestimate for release? Are you still planning to complete the development?

arrrgh. I was really counting on it for a project that needs to be finished by the end of the summer. My alternative is to purchase the stand-alone, but then I will be forking out more $$ when the AE plugin comes out, which I really can’t afford.

Does anyone know if there will be a price break (for the AE plug) for owners of PI 3?

About a month or two ago, someone at WT told me that the release date for the PI AE plugin was June 28th. But I have not seen a shred of info about it on their site. Anyone know what’s up?
