Sorry to hear that you didn’t get the results you were looking for! Can you tell me the search term and let me take a look? We’ve done a lot of refining already, and having specific targets is very helpful.

Reading replies from 16 years ago is not terribly helpful.

If it applies to the latest version, true, but in general, you’d be amazed. One of the reasons we’re still around is that our most popular thread on any given day might have started 10 or 15 years ago. One of our most popular tutorials was written in 2002!

But yes, I refine dates in Google, too. Especially when my question is about a new feature that was just introduced, even a month is too old. There was a lot that was busted in our old search engine (which is why we rebooted), but I did dig that the default was to search 2 years back, and you had to ask to see more. Definitely going on the list.

Thanks for the details, and if you don’t mind, I really would love to take a look at your specific search term, as well as a broader description of the problem you’re trying to solve!

Hi Robert,

Many new features coming to the Search tools, and this is definitely on the list! For now, just add “Vegas Pro” or even just Vegas as the first term in your search inquiry, and that will do nearly all the job for you.

As an example, I went to the front page of the site, typed in “Vegas plugins”, and the answers I got were all from the Vegas Pro forum.

That’s not to say that we don’t have the “search this forum only” feature coming. We do! Along with many other search tools….but try your search starting with “Vegas Pro” and see how it goes! And be sure to let us know if you’re getting unexpected results. Even within the current search toolset, we’ve already done quite a bit of refinement, and will be happy to see what else we can do.

Yes indeed, thanks for the report!

It does appear to only happen after the quote styling, so I am going to have to test this some more.

Once again, though, I fixed it simply by going into admin edit mode, where the post displayed properly, hit save (again, after doing nothing), and it now looks fine.

My larger concern is that you said that you couldn’t edit your post after you made it. Is that still the case? Our system is supposed to allow editing for 30 minutes after you make a post. Can you please doublecheck that? You can do it here, or in the Test Posting forum. I’ll be headed there myself in just a bit to see if I can pin down the circumstances of the markup error.

Since you’re one of the folks here who works with multiple systems, I’d love to hear your specific thoughts. Are there Avid features that YOU miss when you’re in FCPX?

Does Premiere Pro ever make you miss it when you’re in either FCPX or Avid? I’ve tried to make that sound less snarky, because I don’t mean it to be. I’m just acknowledging that it’s not unusual to work in all three, or add Resolve to make four.

I know that many, many people hear lament everything that they miss from FCPX when they’re in other NLEs, but I hope (as with this very pro-FCPX fellow) that we’re far enough along that nobody will feel an overwhelming need to ride to FCPX’s “defense”. No defense needed because no offense implied. Everything has its advantages for some people and contexts, which means that it has disadvantages for others, or none of this means anything.

So, as one of poly-est polyglots, how does all this work out for YOU?

In general, the Letters to the COW Team forum is the best way to draw things to our attention, although I think it may need a better name. Any ideas?

2) Will you have a way for old links to redirect to new links?

Yikes! This is supposed to work! And it mostly does, even though this one clearly does not. Can you tell me how you found that old link?

Also, can you check that the original link is correct? Any correct links should be redirecting to the new site, and again, they mostly are.

This is very curious, but also disturbing. I’ll appreciate any insight you can give me!

3) Will there be some way to either limit a search to just one forum, or to filter the search results, to just show results from a particular forum?

Definitely. We have lots and lots of search enhancements under development. I’m afraid that I don’t have a firm date for you, although I can tell you that it’s definitely part of the next phase of construction, which will also include the articles, the addition of tags to make searching and sorting easier, etc.

Valentina Vee is one of the people I admire most in the industry. She shoots, directs, produces, writes, edits, trains, is a legend of lighting, and is doing as much as anyone anywhere to shape the future of video production. Her work has billions of views online. Yes billions. I’ve seen individual clips with over 100 million views each.

She takes staff positions now and again, but is mostly a freelancer, and recently tweeted this:

I have always wondered if beginning freelancers really believe us when we say things like, “you’ll be lucky to bill for half your hours”, but experienced freelancers already know. Whatever you think you should charge, you should double it.

And if that number sounds like something you can’t defend to a client, your response cannot be, “Well, I guess I’ll just have to charge less” without consequences. That’s why there’s no shortcut to this answer. You’re the only one who knows your expenses.

Just to let you know that I’ve split this part of the original Vegas thread re: Pan/Zoom so that we can work through the markup issues separately. In fact, our side conversation about formatting issues had become twice as long as the original thread!

You’re supposed to be able to edit your post for a while after you make it, but you’re right, those controls are missing. I will look into that when I check in on the other issues that you’ve raised here.

All good stuff, man! Keep it coming, and I’ll get it addressed as quickly as I can!

Here’s a trick that I’d like you to try next. After you hit the post button, immediately go in to edit your post, available under that little meatball menu next to the reply arrow.

Because here’s what happened to me when I just tried to go in to edit your post to remove the div tags. The edit window opens, and they’re not there! The post renders correctly. Then I hit post again to exit edit mode, and yup, still rendering correctly.

I assume that this will work for you if you try it, since I’m not actually doing anything to the post, other than loading it and hitting the post button again without making any changes.

Not that this is the fix per se. I’m just trying to gather as much data as I can to help the dev team fix it.

Thanks for catching that it’s after you do the quote, though! I think you’re right, that that may be the thing. I’ll let you know what I find as we get under the hood!
