Thanks for the info. I decided to try a test with the text overlay track muted and that is what is causing the longer render times. Mpeg2 encoding using all the highest settings was about 1.5:1 just doing straight video. I guess I just got spoiled with my Quattrus system being able to do 4 layers of video and 6 layers of keyed graphics in realtime. 🙂 I’m not yet sure of how Vegas handles graphics yet so perhaps it’s even doing some resizing(I’m using 720×480 graphics for my keyed layer) that it shouldn’t have to. I just got Vegas so there are few “discoveries” to be made on how things are handled. 🙂 Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. It seems excessive to me too. I tried your suggestion and it made a change but in the wrong direction. 🙂 It made rendering quite a bit longer and the CPU’s weren’t running near 100% any longer. It appears that the setting must change the rate the encoder is getting data. Thanks for the idea though.

LCD screens really need to be run in whatever the native resolution is(varies according to size) or there is going to be blurriness due to scaling. My 19″ LCD monitor(my secondary is a CRT) runs at 1280×1024 natively. Changing the default text size can help a lot BUT it can also cause problems with the interfaces on some applications. Using a custom size increase of 10% seems to be a fairly decent compromise which most apps. can deal with.
Hi Mike. 🙂

Foundation is an incredible deal! I used LW for a lot of years, moved to MAYA Complete eventually and finally got what I really wanted- XSI. I had to wait for them to come out with their price reductions. 🙂 Foundation does nearly everything a person would need UNLESS a render farm, hair or solid dynamics is needed. There is a hair plugin available but I have no idea how good it is. Soft dynamics is good and can be used to provide some physical interaction. You could later move up to Essentials if need be but to get the full hair capability, Advance is required. Ouch.

My audio also cuts out on a dual 2.4GHZ/2Gig RAM and 6600GT video card. It isn’t that big of an issue to me though since I only want to make sure the navigation is OK. It should be better though and I *think* even the Preview in 1.5 was.

February 8, 2006 at 3:40 pm in reply to: DLT drives that won’t work with earlier versions may work with 2.0Me too! 🙂 Seriously though, you will like all the changes and new features in Encore2.

I actually suspect that is the case but there is no way I can take the time to reinstall XP along with my apps. There would also be the possibility that the app. that is causing the conflict is as important as Encore or probably even moreso since there are alternatives to Encore. 🙂 I do appreciate the idea though and you are probably correct.

Yep, it was a valiant effort! 🙂 Oh well, at least the DVDit 6 Pro I bought and downloaded this afternoon does work fine with the drive. Encore is definitely doing something funky in the way they deal with the drive as compared to other apps.

Thanks but I found a more acceptable solution(especially since some other app. may cause the same problem when reinstalled). I bought the download version of DVDit 6 Pro this afternoon- it works fine with the drive. I wish it had a few features that I was even waiting for Encore to get but it always seems we keep waiting to get features we want. 🙂 I mainly use DVDLab Pro but was wanting something half way decent for doing double layer projects and also quick and easy for the simple projects. DVDit should be fine for what I need presently. Does anybody know if Adobe allows reselling their apps. as used and let a buyer register it?

Many thanks for the offer but I’m in the US. Fortunately, the actual project hasn’t started yet- I just was testing to make sure things were ready to go. Obviously a good thing I checked ahead of time instead of waiting until the last minute. 🙂
