Bill if those are your system specs certainly some types of encodes would take hours and you’re probably on Compressor 1.x rather than 2 (as part of FCS1/FCP5) or 3 (as part of FCS2/FCP6).

Are you using Flip4Mac 2.1.1.70?
Are you doing 2 Pass VBR?
Set keyframe to every 1 second and see if that makes the color shift go away. -
And Compressor 3 will be able to create MPEG-2 Program Streams and my guess is we’re not more than 3 weeks from seeing that.

I’ve never seen a DG/FastChannel preset in Compressor but you can attempt one. You can always attempt building a custom preset and testing it with your DG/FastChannel Drop Box account. Compressor does create a transport, not a program stream.
If you Compressor doesn’t do it though you’ll have to look into other options like Episode Pro which is what I use for DG/FastChannel but I think some people have had luck with Cleaner.

Who’s your target for viewing the video? Corporate (Windows), home users (mostly PCs), entertainment types (more likely to have Quicktime), etc.QuicktimePro, Compressor, Squeeze, Episode for compression softare.
H.264, MPEG4, Sorenson 3 Pro, Windows Media 9, Flash 7, Flash 8, are codecs that have advantageous and disadvantageous depending on your target.What’s the “best” car, what’s the “best” food? What’s your need will heavily determine what’s “best.”

Usually, for me, if someone wants a DV AVI it’s because they may want to do further editing. Nothing wrong with that. Episode can create DV, DVCPro, DVCPro50 AVI both 4:3 and 16:9. Audio should be PCM, 48kHz.

I don’t know if Cleaner or Squeeze make DV.AVI on the Mac.

It’s gone in many cases. There’s still a way to trigger a color anomaly. It involves having a long natural or forced key frame distance. Making a short key frame distance such as every one second and it goes away completely.
