Wow….

I am completely overwhelmed, emotionally, from the response to my blog on Monday. My wife said she wasn’t surprised, but I was stunned. Still am, in fact.

Yet Ripple Training and MacProVideo are still around although I have no idea what their financial shape is. There’s smaller players like Izzy Video as well.

I think at issue is business model.

Yet I find most of the free tutorials piecemeal. Great for learning a specific function but not so much if you want to learn end to end functionality in an ecosystem. Also, unless you follow a specific content creator and they are certified (or off that quality), the information is wildly uneven.

I think perhaps Lynda.com subscription model might have been too difficult to compete against.
RippleTraining is a buy and pay for upgrade business model so it doesn’t compete as directly.

I think there’s a nugget in there with “three.” RippleTraining has been expanding as well and, if you watch their Virtual User Group (which I believe is actually from PixelCorp) with each expansion there’s been new trainers. Perhaps Larry was doing too much himself.

Perhaps the problem with Larry’s business model is that the bigger subscription model overwhelmed his smaller business subscription model. RippleTraining is still buy and paid upgrade.

Given that his new training facilities weren’t generating enough revenue, I wonder if there’s seeds of change in online training and he burnt out trying to keep up. Even more than his training, I loved reading his blog for his FCP/Apple/Industry insight. Although his post leans personal, I can’t help but think he’s leaving us with one more nugget about change…. even in the online training community.

You’re using the same computer and monitor with FCPX that you used with FCP7?
While FCP7 was Quicktime Frameworks based, FCPX is CoreMedia based. If anything FCPX/CoreMedia seems to be better.

To do your own Quality Control you should check your encodes before uploading. If they look good then YouTube and Vimeo are the culprits.

Of course you’re checking all this on the same computer with the same calibrated monitor right?

If you find a consistent pattern then you should add post processing filters for your encodes (Add Video Effect) in Compressor otherwise you can duplicate your timeline in FCPX and do a separate grade (possibly with an “adjustment layer”) as a YouTube or Vimeo specific version.

I’m confused by this comment since there’s no specifics regarding the problems you’re having. That makes it very difficult to make recommendations.

I use Telestream Episode for MPEG-2 Program and Transport Streams.
If you need a broadcast/cable delivery service you may want to look into ExtremeReach.

Default Video and Audio FX now can be changed in the FX Browser and follows Keyboard Command.

See Color Finale keeps crashing FCP X. There are some things that can conflict with it so you should send them the crash log.
